SWAT xc Box on a Strive - pics
I've been looking at options for ditching my backpack for local rides etc.
Here is a post with my research https://seekerbikes.com/2017/05/14/d...esearch-notes/
A lot of time interwebbing and the Specialized SWAT xc box looked like a good option. I managed to find one and it seems to fit

The box has a bolt through to the bottom bottle mount. The box is attached neatly to the zee cage and the cage is attached by just one bolt to the top bottle mount.
I was initially concerned the cage wouldn't be firm because of the single bolt. It's super firm though.

Nice! And the shock doesn't rub on that? If I felt I could ditch my hydration pack, this would be a great option.

Nope shock doesn't get close set up like this. Definitely bottomed out the suspension fully a few times over the weekend and no marks on the box
If I think about it at the right time I'll let the air out of the shock to show it.

Great job, really clean!
Makes me want to ditch my carbon bottle cage and seat bag.

in the absence of the bolt on the box, wasnt that flopping specially on the rough (ie rock garden) or drops?
i have a similar setup but on a YS hardtail. It was a clean setup TBH but the lack of the
bolt makes me hold down a bit

I use the bolt hole in the box and only have one in the bottle cage. Works really well

Old thread, i know...
In case you read this. Do you notice the extra weight on the bike, while cornering (water bottle is high) and specially on long hard climbings? I can squeeze your exact solution on my frame, and its looks perfect, a lot better than straps or lots of tape, but i am not sure about the trade of ditching the pack and porking my bike. Any advice appreciatted.

I do notice the weight on the bike but not in a way that affects handling. Its balanced more than enough by not wearing a pack
The weight is carried pretty low. Much lower and much closer to the centre of gravity of the bike and closer to the tyre contact patch pivot point than a seat bag would be (I really dont like seat bags because of the way they make bikes feel)
I keep meaning to weigh it all. With a full water bottle (650ml = 650g) its probably 1.2kg all up which is just a heavy frame.

Thx iggs for your time answering me. Yeah, fair enough about the weight balance, and comparing it to the height of a saddle bag. My main concern is that, i am deliberating increasing my frame weight, when we keep trying to keep it as low as possible/ reliable. Guess i'll have to try it for myself, this heavy (ier) bike, light body version.
Anyway, for anyone interested, i managed to set this up on 16 medium transition patrol, it fits perfectly , even with my piggy monarch debonair rc3.
Storage, i had this diferent appproach than yours, i ditched the tube and carry a tubeless kit repair, a derraileur cable, CO2 and a small multitool. All wrapped in foam to silence the box. Just wondering/ checkin...hαs the tool box never opened on a big jump/ bumpy descent? Thx again mate, your pics were a huge help, it was exactly what i had um mind.

Can this be mounted without the water bottle? I'd love to keep my tools and tube on the bike at all times, and just worry about water on my body.
Thanks!

Nope never and I've ridden some very very rough trails at race pace (Cannonball at Thredbo for instance). Had some big stacks too, box hasnt opened and I havent lost a bottle either. The side loading cage tip I was given was a proper top tip!

Thanks!
The box only has one bolt location inside so is relying on working with the cage a bit

It was easy once I got round to it
Chopped the top/thread off a used CO2 canister. Took the insert tool from a weltite tubeless repair kit, chopped the handle to length then removed the excess plastic till it would fit into the co2 canister thread and glued it in with epoxy.
