    prophet crank help

    hey guys I have a 07 prophet 6 and the left side crank arm is no longer square.....I noticed this bc the crank needed to be tightened every ride........should I replace just the arm or up grade the entire crank???? any help would be much appreciated

    some square tapers do have the tendency to round off, that's why they aren't common except on lower end bikes anymore. i'd recommend getting a new crank and bottom bracket altogether. If you want something cheap but good, I'd go with a deore octalink crankset and the octalink BB. Very reliable. Or you could always get the newer outboard-bearing style that everyone is moving to (except bb30, but don't worry about that), but that will set you back even more.

    I say get a new crank set. Been eyeing the Gravity Lite one for my Prophet.

    I chose Hone's over Gravity Lights.

    Gravity Lights are a bit more expensive and heavier.

    Supposedly both the Hones and Gravity's don't have the best BB's, so both could be replaced with ceramics later on. The Hone's have a slightly lighter bash ring I believe.

    I like my Hones so far. It's very nice bashing into a log with the bashring, and only hearing a nice solid "THUD" rather previous 3-Ring sound of bending metal.
