    Lefty not smooth???

Brand new Lefty DLR2 that blew the cartridge. Anyhow, I repaired the cartridge to get me riding until the new one gets here (Thanks Craig from Mendon!). When I compress the fork it is kinda rough feeling. Not really bad but I do notice it is not buttery smooth. Looks like the bearings are in place, I lubed the bottom fork under the boot. Any thoughts? Can't really see it being the cartridge as it feels like it even when it is removed and I cycle the fork. Thanks

    Scott

If your bearing preload is on the higher end, you start to get a bit of "gravely-ness". Nothing to worry about. They also tend to smooth out as they break in too.

When you say bearing preload are you talking about the air pressure? I was going to just ride it and let it hopefully smooth out. It's not doing anything "wrong" but just a little rough. Thanks

No, bearing preload is the tightness of fit between the roller bearings, and the races they sit between. Factory, or service person set, not a customer thing. Changeable if you want it plusher, but migration quickens with lighter preload
