Changing old stem & steerer to new XC3 Si

I have a 2005 Cannondale Scalpel with the older style two piece stem and steering tubes where the lower Lefty arm is riveted to the steering tube.
I also have a "take off" integrated XC3 Si stem/steerer from my 2008 Cannondale Scalpel.
Is it possible to swap the old style for new?
Will it fit both in length and diameter or have the headtube sizes changed over the years?
If so, what parts are needed?
In place of purchasing a new lower lefty clamp, can the XC3 Si be drilled and then riveted?

Thanks in advance and yes, I have emailed Cannondale for this information, but thought I'd also pick the brains of folks around here.

I had a 2004 Scalpel 3000 and upgraded to the XC3 Si without any fuss- direct bolt on if I remember correctly.
