    Cannondale F-400, replacing rubber boot

    Do I need special tools to replace the rubber boot on my 1998 F400?

    Nope. Unclamp single stem bolt, slide for out remove boot and replace. Ebay has lots of replacement boots for $21/shipped:

    replaced my boot yesterday, ended up removing the sterring tube and all the main bearings races, was a pig of job i will say. the boot i got online for 5.69

    Thanks for replying. When you say "single stem bolt", I's assuming you mean the allen key bolt that holds the stem extension to the steering tube. I did remove that and then tried a few light blows with a rubber hammer but it doesn't want to slide out. Am I missing something here?

    As you can see in the picture, there is no top cap to remove. It looks like a special tool is needed for removal.
