2012 Flash 3 cracking sound in headtube

I have recently purchased a flash 3 carbon, I changed the stem to a less angled -5 and am constantly hearing a cracking sound from the steering area. The bike made no sound from new with the origanial stem, but as soon as I changed it I can't seem to get rid of the sound.
I have reassembled it a number of times torquing it to the correct setting and applied heaps of grease everywhere. It starts the ride out quiet then half way through it starts again.
Any help or someone that has had the problem would be great

    Thanks.

Have you pulled the bearings out of the frame yet? Cannondale almost never puts grease between the bearings and frame and it ends up creaking everytime.

You could also check that the bar is even and flush within the stem face plate. I had similar problem when i switch stem once, and although i used a torque wrench to fit everything, it turned out the bars were not seated correctly...

its prob a rubbing no grease issue. no way cracks. a crack you would probably never hear, it would just be there.

and yes, it could be a bar/stem bolt not tight issue as well.
