    1997 M700

    Hi.

I have plans to get my old M700 up and running again.
Completely stripped the bike and had it painted again.

It was originally equipped with Shiamano Deore LX and SRam 5.0 Cassette.
    This is old and destroyed.

Will the Shimano 2008 XT fit the frame? And how about disc brakes?
    Any recommandations?

    Thanks in advance.

Good luck with the restoration. Shimano xt should work, but I'm pretty sure that bike does not come equipped to handle disc brakes. Considering how old the bike is, I would stick with Deore and LX equipment, including V-brakes, but hey, it's your bike. It's up to you.

    Thanks for your reply.

I had a suspicion that it might not be able to handle disc brakes.

Maybe I should just go for the LX then

For brakes I would use Avid SD 7's. I have them on all my bikes and for the money, they work great. I wouldn't touch LX brakes. XT, absolutely. My two cents.

    Deore LX

Where would be the cheapest place to buy a full set Deore LX?
Where I live it is very expensive.
