I have no personal experience with them (yet), but I have heard good things about Mike at North of the Border Bikes down near San Diego. When the time comes for me to get a new wheel set, thats where I will go.

Mike at NOTB does excellent work at a fair price. I have 3 wheelsets from him and he can handle all my off the wall setups such as this drum brake setup for my 41 schwinn.

It all depends where your from,If your from LA, Im sure your not going to SD to have wheels built.
If your from the Claremont/ Pomona/ San Dimas area, I would recommend "JackBuilt" wheels from Jack at Coates Cyclery in Claremont. Jack has built several wheelsets for several types of applications and I never had a bad build yet, as a matter of fact, he built me a ultra light (1330 gram) mountain wheelset 10years ago that still run strong and true.

Are you building a klunker or trying for original? My wheels are Pro Class rims with a Union rear hub and a Sturmey front. Pro Class rims are very hard to find and Union drums are next to impossible to find. I suggest just getting some Araya 7x rims. Easy to find on ebay.

Im building a clunker. Im trying to keep to the period( 1970's) using something like a a Sturmey-Archer 2 or 3 speed rear hub with a coaster brake and a Schwinn drum brake and Schwinn rims.
I have'nt really looked that hard for these items, but if they come availible I would be interested.

I had a wheel built at Alpha Cycles in Vista, good prices, great work, and much closer to idylwild than NOTB.
