Rider Missing - Andy Cox, Jamul area

    Rider Missing -

Andy Cox of the UK, last known location Jamul on Dec 1st, heading in direction of Baja on the Baja Divide route.

A regular on social media during his touring across Europe for over a year, his posts stopped a week ago.

Andy is tall, slim, around 185-190cm and 85kg. He has a close-crop or bald head. He rides a green steel Genesis 29er with drop bars.

Apologies for the use of the forum in this way. His friends are experienced bikepackers who know what it can be like out there with kit malfunctions etc though with Andy's track record, to be radio-silent for over a week now in that area is worrying for us.

If anyone has any news please email me, james.olsen.remote 'at' hotmail.co.uk

    Thanks

Damn. That's sketchy. I hope he comes back online very soon. Too many predator types in those parts for my liking. Praying for a safe and positive outcome.

Yep, Jamul area is very desolate but what is out there are tweakers, drug runners and border jumpers. Hope he is okay.

I know moto guys ride that route or at least ride the baja peninsula. You may want to post in those forums (if there are any). I think they'd be more likely to come across him if he's already crossed into Mexico. I'll be praying that he turns up safe and sound.

Seems that the rain (?) caught him out and a bike shop in the area has been helpful, so hoping for more news soon, my hope and guess is that all's well. Thanks for the positive thoughts here.

From the article, it sounds like he did cross the border and is somewhere in Baja. I'm hoping he's okay and turns up at one of his resupply points soon. Traveling alone and by bicycle down there is a bit sketchy. Cell service and Internet access in most remote areas down there is limited to none so that could explain why he hasn't posted or contacted anybody in days.

I just read he's been found safe. Turned up in Vicente Guerrero, I think it said.
