    Fat tire festival in Kernville

Anyone on the board going to Kernville this weekend? It will be my first time. Really looking forward to it!!
I got no friends, and everyone else hates me.
The older I get, the faster I was.

I am headed up there on Thursday evening. Staying at the MTN River campground where they stage all of the events (camp site #2).

Never been to fat tire fest - but I did go up for a day with some friends last month and do Cannell Plunge - it is pretty darn fun (and I not normally a shuttle type rider).

I know this question doesn't relate to this actual post but I have a general question regarding Kernville - is it a winter riding destination? I'm heading to California/Arizona for riding over Dec/Jan Christmas break and hoped to add Kernville to my riding destinations.

I wouldn't call Kernville a winter destination but there is certainly some good riding here then. The town itself is only at 2500'. That is part of the reason there are so many big epic rides here. The lake at 2500' is surrounded by 7-10,000' mountains. The upper elevations are snowed in during the winter but there are some lower elevation xc trails that are great. The best of them is the Kern Canyon Trail. It is a 24 mile point to point xc ride. In Jan/Feb it is in perfect shape. Let me know if you want any more info.

The Fat Tires Fest is a great little known gem in So Cal. This is the 20th. It is a blast! You will love the great folks at Mountain River and the rides are epic. Make sure you hit Cannell meadow trail and Just Outstanding. You can most of this all winter but not the higher elevations when the snow hits. The lower trails and trails off Greenhorn are accessible unless we get dumped on. Have a great time at the festival - make sure you ask John Stallone about the pregnant nun and preacher that won the first Festival Lip Sync Costume Contest!

    Good job! Kernville

Had a blast at the event. The weather and riding was perfect. The folks that run it are really cool. 2nd year in a row and plan on going again next year.
