I want to know more about this comment specifically the part in bold:

Hi Mjvande aka Mike. hope you are well. Mike is a well known American mountain bike hater, that spends his time regularly trolling any news about mountain bikers. If you google him you will find that according to the internet he has been arrested and tried in the US for attacking mountain bikers with saws. He has no idea of where this event took place or on what type of trail were ridden and has no understanding of UK access laws as apposed to US access law. Mike also has injunction preventing him from placing comments on many mountain bike forums and news posts in the US hence the reason he trolls Uk posts. Mike also likes cats, his cats probably kill more wildlife than mountain bikers.

I just realized that I have been interacting with him regarding a trail area in SoCal on a local magazine comments section:

His vitriol would've given him away no matter what name he used. His "why can't mountain bikers EVER tell the truth!?" is a dead giveaway.

yeah, pretty sad existence when you spend your time actively searching for any article about MTB's and trails to post negative comments..... very sad.

He also is on the wrong side of the issue. Land managers across the country are eagerly building new trail as fast as they can get funding and approval.

Too bad Mike didn't get that Schwinn Stingray he wanted so very badly for Christmas in 1965. I think he's beyond therapy at this point.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DH40 again.

-He's also showing up locally backing up our local mountain bike haters. All 2 of them, Husband & Wife.

Funny how these two had their moment and like MJV have also slid-off and into obscurity.

    Wow.

Isn't he violating the terms of his probation? Or has that already expired? I wonder what the judge would think of all this recent activity.

I didn't bother to dig into that site and investigate further but that's a solid indication that dude is clearly off his rocker. It's pretty bad when a topic is "HOT" only because it has 154 views and not one single reply. What a train wreck.

I'm too new to town to know this infamous Mr. V.
And I'm not sure how old he is... but I had a brief and curious interaction with some old timers at Big Rock Deli.

He says "hey! you're one of those evil mountain bikers", obviously joking.
    I say, "ummm yeah?"
He says, "Yeah you ever see those IJ articles?"
I say, "Yeah they seem pretty biased"
He says, "Yeah both sides are"

And that was it. But whats notable is that 1. they(local older folks) probably don't think mountain bikers are actually evil, and 2. they still think that mountain bikers are equally biased (against what i'm not sure) as footpeople are against bikers.

Anyway, I think the local populous's true opinion is favorable toward bikers in general. In my 2 years here riding every week(in the greater san rafael area), I've only really encountered maybe 1 or 2 overly bitter trail users, most people on the trail are very nice and even accommodating. And sadly, other mountain bikers can often be more dickish to bikers then hikers are.

That's the truth, I've had far more negative run ins with other mountain bikers than hikers and equestrians. It really depends on where you are, too, though.

And all the threads were started by him. He seems to like to see that mountain bikers are getting hurt on the trails. That makes him kinda sick, doesn't it?

It has been well known for quite some time that at most a dozen or so older equestrians and “footpeople” dominate the trail access paradigm in Marin County.

It appears to be a front for the bicycle specific portions of Usenet, for god's sake! Too funny that he is relegated to posting in a place no one actually really visits any more. At this point, I would have no idea where to find a Usenet server to use. Does Google Groups still front them as well? The answer, apparently, is yes:

    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!fo....mountain-bike

Looks like all spam there now.

He's a piece of work for sure. Whenever he gets called out on his conviction, he calls you a liar and goes to his "why do mountain bikers always lie?" routine. The thing is he WAS convicted. He may have had it expunged later by meeting the terms of his probation, but he was convicted nonetheless.

Better yet, a one way trip to the Amazon and tell him he needs to stop the clearcutting. That should keep him occupied for a while.

You need to read the comments.

    MDV's comment is same'ol same'ol.

    "Scorch's" response is worth repeating:

"You are one uptight and angry guy. About half your facts are completely delusional, which is normal with most crackpots. They take some truth and then twist it into the narrative and agenda they are currently ranting about.

Here’s a couple of tips that might help you engage better with the human race; it’s ok if your views don’t coincide with everyone else. But that doesn’t make them wrong or evil.

Secondly, of you really want to put your energy towards helping people, try something that is important, like suicide prevention, drug addiction or safe driving. All of those things hurt and kill more people every single hour than MTB does in a decade.

After reading your post again, I realize that your probably just sad, lonely and attention seeking. So it worked! I have you some attention. Now go do something nice for someone instead of maligning a very positive pastime like high school mountain biking."

Used to see him puttering around Rockridge from time to time. We occasionally made eye contact, and I was pretty sure he knew that I knew who he was. I withheld the urge to yell (in my Old Spice "Swan Dive!" voice) "Sawwww!!!! Ha ha haaaa!!!!!!!!"

He truly has nothing better to do, so he searches for mountain biking related articles in publications which he hasn’t already been banned from. His response is always the same, because he essentially cuts and pastes his standard response. I'm betting he's never even been to your town. He's the 400 lb fat guy trolling from his mom's basement.

I don’t get a paywall, just a survey that you can skip. It’s kind of a long post to copy here, but it’s essentially the same as all of his posts. Talks about how bikers kill the environment, references BS, rambles on...

Just kind of crazy to see a blast from the past pop up here in little Logan, Utah!

I paraphrased DH40 for ya... That's a good article on high school mountain biking.

    "Exactly as bad as MSNBC."

Maybe, but that doesn't make it any less true. I believe that's called deflection?

My wife ran into him at a Native Plant conference in LA last year. He was a presenter. She described the presentation, I told her who it was. On the money...

She did a great job of letting the organizers have it for letting him present at a conference reserved for scientists.

I don't use FB but i have a burner account for certain things like band's pages that have tour info, etc. When I clicked on a FB link just now, Mr. Zuckerberg had this message for me:

    We Removed Something You Posted
It looks like something you posted doesn't follow our Community Standards. We don’t allow posts that bully private individuals or harass anyone on Facebook. This could include altered images, photos or videos of physical bullying or any other post intended to degrade or shame a specific person.

Notorius anti-outdoor recreation crusader Mike Vandeman has found your thread! Google him for a sad insight into this sociopath. Great work on the trail to all involved!
