TR: 10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 1 - 4

Earlier this month 6 friends and I went on a 300 mile, 10 day MTB loop starting and ending in Bend OR.

We began the long drive north in Pleasanton

and stopped at Dunsmuir Brewing for Lunch.

As we got closer to Bend it began to rain.

We were happy to get to Marks house after the long drive.

That evening we readied ourselves for the trip. This year we decided instead of a full bike packing trip, we'll all take turns driving a vehicle loaded with camping equipment and most importantly, BEER!!

Day 1. Bend to 3 Creek Meadow CG.

With all 7 of us together we began the trip

TR: 10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 1 - 4-img_3197.jpg

We started at Phil's TH and rode up Ben's trail to Skyliners, over to a dirt road and up until we reached the Mrazek Tr.

Man 'O Man, the riding around Bend is amazing. The Mrazek Tr was a long steady climb up but not that difficult. We got to the Met-Win Tr but after 30 minutes or so of repeated HAB, we bailed onto to the FR which lead us to 3 Creek Meadow CG

which is where we camped that night.

    Day 1. 33 miles, 4104' of climbing, 1599' descending

    -------------

Day 2. 3 Creek Meadow CG to Indian Ford CG.

We awoke to a little frost in the morning but the weather was great. Once all packed up we headed off, mostly all downhill to Sisters.

We caught the Peterson Ridge Tr and rode that all the way down to Sisters.

The Sisters Trail Alliance is doing an outstanding job of creating a trail system. I wish there was stuff like that around here. Once in Sisters, we ate lunch at the food trucks. One great thing, the bike shop there sells Beer!!!

After lunch, we rode a nice trail over to Indian Ford CG where we spent the night.

    Day 2. 28 miles, 290' climbing, 3379' descending

    -------------

Day 3. Indian Ford CG to Clear Water Cove CG

The next day was my turn to drive. I drove with Mark. We would drive ahead and ride back to meet the rest of the gang to ride with them.

The route took us from Indian Ford CG to the Headwaters of the Metolius River.

TR: 10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 1 - 4-img_3242-copy.jpg

We met the everyone in Camp Sherman for lunch. After lunch the riders rode the Lake Creek Trail to Suttle L. There we met them and rode with them up to Dark L. After Dark Lake the trail became a total HAB until it ended up onto a dirt road. There Mark & I rode back to the truck while the others rode on. It was a good day to be driving as the route took them onto the Santiam Wagon Road and by Sand Mountain. Those guys had 10 miles on sand that was in some places 12" deep. Miserable riding. Mark and I met them at the MacKenzie River just above Clear Lake where we camped for the night.

    Day 3. 37 miles, 3282 climbing, 3490' descending

    ----------------

Day 4. Clear Water Cove CG to French Pete CG

Woke up to another beautiful day. Today we ride the MacKenzie River Trail. 20+ miles of awesomeness.

Once off the trail we rode to Takodas Restaurant for dinner.

After dinner we still had to ride to our next camp. We rode through a covered bridge

TR: 10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 1 - 4-img_3281.jpg

And up to and past Cougar Reservoir

TR: 10 Day MTB Tour in Oregon, Days 1 - 4-img_3282.jpg

To our next camp at French Pete CG. There the beer tasted so good we couldn't sit down straight.

    Day 4. 40 miles, 2068' climbing, 3330' descending

Nice work! Bikes, beers, and the great Oregon outdoors with friends. Sounds like a great time. What great timing with the rain to pack some of that loose dirt down! Looking forward to the rest of the trip pics.

Very cool. I always appreciate trip reports.

Might be doing a Bend/Oakridge trip in October. I've only been to Ashland thus far.
