Tire inventory - let's see your tire stack.

Do you have a stack of tires that you plan to use at a later time? Are you emotionally attached to them. Do they have too much tread to throw away?

    Let's see em.

Too late to snap a pic, but yes. Just purged ~1/3 of them, and hope to get a few bucks into my eBay Paypal acct (except for a freebie for Plim). The rest will stay in my storage unit. Among the keepers:
    New Raijin (rear winter muckerfother)
" Nev29 (my Rampage was damaged by some ******* at a party)
" Bonty TR somethin' fast and light (rear race tire, just in case I actually race again)
    " 650B Nevs (2.1rr / 2.35fr for the inevitable hard tail build)
    " Vulpine29 & SB829
    " Slant6 29 just because
" WTB Pathway 700x38 (seemed like a good idea at the time)

Used wtb Moto (all rounder rear tire)
" Mutano 2.4 (all rounder front)
" Michelin XC AT 29 (best $12.93 ever spent, thanks REI!)

Will post the purged tires in the local swap thread

I'm saving all my used tires and tubes to recycle, I hope someone at SF Bike Expo will take them from me.

    Tires, lots of tires

used and will be used again
used and probably never to be used again
    new for that special occasion
    for dry or wet/muddy conditions
    xc, all mountain, dh
and one with a ripped sidewall that's now a dog toy

counted them this morning.... 44 that are not on bikes
    11 bikes with tires

Francis - your situation must be even better!

here's a pic of about half the stash

That's a great idea. State condition of the tires if there's no photo.

Cause what's better than recycle?? Reuse!

Also, I've seen this outfit who makes seats out of old tires. Anybody know them?

I gave a huge stack of tires (30+?) to Trips For Kids last year. They were psyched and I was psyched to get them out of the garage, win-win!

I've got a couple tires that are new or like new that I'd like to trade:

    1) Schwalbe Fat Albert 2.2, Front and Rear. About 20 miles on them.
    2) 2 x Schwalbe Marathon (road tires) 700x33. About 100 miles on them.
    3) 5 x Kenda Nevegal DTC 2.35. One is still in the packaging another has about 20 miles on it. a third has 100 so miles on it. 2 more are kind of worn but good for a fooling around bike (probably keep those two.)

Trade for all mountain 2.2-2.4 tires in similar condition from maxxis, specialized, wtb, schwalbe or continental.

Don't throw those tires away! Take them to a tire shop & they'll send them off to be properly disposed of.

    Puzzled ?

Nice tire stash Porkstacker ! Can't guess which tire is the rare one but I will answer your question with a question. What brand is my tire in the pic ? It is a front tire that I used reverse mounted today on Kennedy. 2.1 size. Stuck like glue to the slippery "its" hills. Bonus question is who are the fighters in the ringside pic that has been blown up and framed. Tire inventory - let's see your tire stack.-0903111308a.jpg

    1. Looks like a Duro Razorback… they have been known as other names as well, and in “smaller” sizes (2.3" and 2.6")

2a. Muhammad Ali and Leon Sphinx.

2b. Mean Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali???

My sports trivia knowledge sucks. Ask me anything about 60's to late 1980's music trivia and we’re talking a whole different ball of wax.

I'm down to just some Eskar's and Kenda's right now. Gave a tiny stack to Zorg for his oldest to use on his bike now that he's on 26" and the rest to TFK and my buddies farm (uses them for tree straps).

Tire is a cheap and dirty front IRC Mythos xc. Correct on the Hearns on the right who....... just got hit with a left / sweat flying in pic......by Leonard and downhill from there for Hearns ........ from their first fight in 1981

getting tired of cutting the sidewalls on my conti trail kings, but love the damn tire. Don't want the weight penalty by going ust though.

giving a bronson rear a try, but if anyone has any xc race tires that DONT have a weak sidewall, I'll take them off your hands for beer

everyone locally is running the ikon 2.2 from maxxis, looks a little small but that weight is killer. My wallet would punch me in the face if I paid 70 bux for a tire though.

wish I had taken pictures - but when I moved into our new house, I disposed of two full loads (eg. back of of a Honda element with no seat - full to the ceiling) AND I brought back with me a full load. LOL... The ones I threw away were old tires I accumulated over the years - most were all cracked from being stored and exposed to heat.

The Schwalbe freeride and Maxxis Exo casings are both excellent. They are starting to make their way to the more XC oriented tires but there is still a weight penalty for both of them.

Maybe you should run DH tires for a while. After that 900g is light. Problem solved.

tried the bronson 2.1 tcs on the rear for an auburn epic this evening. tiny tire, not much volume, especially compared to a tk 2.2. Corners kinda weird too, not used to it yet.

High volume tires in norcal just seem to work better...

I used that tire a lot during the winter. It is truly awesome as it has a ton of grip, is stable and predictable. Casing quality and rubber is very good. It's nice and round with no wobbles. braking is good and climbing is good.

It's not light or a fast roller so that's the downside. It's not a huge volume tire either. The side knobs do extend out though past the casing.

I'll put them back on now that there's a lot of surface dust and loose conditions.

I have not. But it shouldn't be a problem. I've run a few Panaracers tubeless before and they have a good bead and casing.

Wow, those things look quite substantial and rugged, with very aggressive tread pattern. I am still in search of “the perfect” tire… one that doesn’t have papier-machê sidewalls (since I like to run rather wide rims), isn’t quite as heavy as a DH tire, has plenty of useful side/sidewall lugs, will provide good traction for going up Dogmeat non-dabs style.

Sounds like a great tire to try out… sure, I have enough tires, but I am still on the quest to find a better “skinny” tire for my needs.

here is my usable stack, this doesn't include clapped out tires, cross tires, road tires or prototype tires. Also doesn't include tires that are on bikes.
There are only about 42-44 tires shown here...

Tell that goofy tall guy that works there with the Soma fleet and silly old VW to steal some of those tires for me.

Cyclocross tires on the bottom, 26" tires in the middle, 29" tires on top. TBI V8 under all of that.

Yeah, hoarder! I like having tires when I need them, and I like changing them. I should just put all those road tubular tires on ebay. I am done with that.

There's racing, and then there's riding. I do believe that lightweight tires are important for racing, not so much for riding.

Once I got over my fear of a heavy tire, and just rode big durable tires all the time, I had so much more fun. My pleasure bike has large, chunky tires on it and it rocks. I go fast.

I have seen so many people's races ruined when their lightweight tires tore or cut. I have had a race ruined like that as well, so when I'm putting together a race bike I go for light weight, performance and durability, meaning I don't always get the lightest tire.

Tire weight is overrated, for mountain bikes.

So I'm chiming in incredibly late here but there is a woman here in Santa Cruz that makes all kinds of cool stuff from spent tires and tubes...

    Totally Tubular Designs

She is always looking for used tires and tubes (tires especially) so if you are ever riding over here in Santa Cruz and want to clean out the garage I bet you could arrange a drop off. Just a thought.
