    Thanksgiving smoke and rain report

    Incredible change here.

Air has cleared in the Peninsula. We haven't seen yellow or green rating in 10 days.

Might be a break in the rain tomorrow for East Bay. Trying to figure out where to squeeze a ride in for the morning.

One last ride on toads this morning, if you believe the weatherman. Snow flurries on the way up but the sun broke back out on the way down.

I drove/walked around some of the Redding areas. These trails are still closed due to fire damages but I did walk onto them for a hundred feet or so. They are WET with such small amounts of rain so far.
Air quality hasn't been a problem for a while as our fires have been out for maybe 2 months now. A couple days last week weather reported there could be problems with folks rated "sensitive" or worse. I ran and rode and didn't notice it. The lower sky was smoky for a few days but blue straight up.

I'd love to get out by the weekend, hoping there isn't too much mud sliding or standing water though.

The "Deep South" of the Silicon Valley (Hollister) got a late start (it was forecast to start raining in the AM but didn't get serious until around 5 PM) and as of now we've gotten about 0.7". We'll take it!

This is looking directly to the west just before the sun rose in the east (duh!):

Nice rosy glow horizon to horizon!

Just before noon it was blue sky and sunshine:

Fortunately the clouds closed back in.

In other news Henry W Coe SP has gotten around 1.25" so far so the single track trails will be closed to bikes for a couple of days.

About 3/4 inch in Lafayette. Hoping trails up Mission Peak aren't sloppy in the morning!

I'm paranoid of screwing up the trails even after light rain. I'll prob do a road ride instead. Haven't squeezed into the spandex since last year.

Not all of Diablo does well in the rain. The south side of the mountain and the lower foothills are terrible clay. The north side however, is more of a decomposed stone.

The route I mentioned is rideable in pretty much all conditions and is legal. There's other stuff on the Clayton side that holds up super good in the rain that "we don't ride because it's off limits to bikes".

Trails are so dry from 7 months without rain that the water should be absorbed pretty quick.
