    Tahoe for memorial day

Hi all, me and the family are planning on taking the ol RV down to Tahoe for the memorial day wkend for some biking. Friends say Northstar is great and we'd probably camp in Truckee. That is the wkend Northstar opens, though. I'd love to do some other trails in the area if possible, not just lift assisted.

How reliable is that opening date? Should I expect some snow and closures of the surrounding trails?

    Thanks!

The way this winter is going, I doubt if much will be open at Memorial Day. Even in a dry year, many of the higher elevation (better) trails donít open until later. The early Truckee trails are typically Emigrant and Sawtooth which are XC oriented.

We were in Truckee/Mills Peak on May 21 last year and everything was wide open. But Northstar always sounds like a zoo opening weekend.

Anybody's guess. If N* is open at all, it's only the lower mountain. It's a good warm up for the season but really short runs and not worth the price of a day pass IMO, even at the reduced price. Good chance of Quincy and Mills being rideable. If you like pumpy jumpy trails come down to Nevada City. And it's always a big weekend at Truckee Bike Park with the Little Big events.

There should be other trails near Truckee that will be good that weekend. Northstar isnít that great anyways.

Sounds like Northstar may be a bust for that wkend. When you guys says Mills do you mean Mills Peak in downieville? Is that area rideable memorial day wkend? I've never ridden these trails....

MTB Project lists it in something called the "Downieville area", which is confusing for this Oregonian. Anyways, thanks for the tips, guys.

Tahoe around memorial day is very much hit or miss. I have been to Tahoe the week after memorial day and it was snowing. I have been there on memorial day and most everything was accessible / melted out.

Typically though, no matter how dry, I haven't seen Northstar fully open the bike park by memorial day.

Unless there is a drastic turnaround in the weather and an extended period of unseasonably warm weather later this winter there is no way N* is gonna be open Memorial day. Except maybe for some good spring skiing. This is an epic winter for snow already and we're about to get another 4-5 feet over the next week. Of course everything could change by then but at this point I wouldn't plan your family vacation around it.

Heet, Trailforks is a much better platform for our area. Most areas, actually. You'll find a lot more content. Falls short on verbiage sometimes but with few exceptions, if it's official trail, it's on the map. MTBP has huge deficiencies in content.
