FC, do you have a circular polarizer for your camera? Polarizing filter (photography) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you enjoy shooting sky-scapes its a must. Really makes the clouds pop! And it works double well at altitude for some reason.... less atmospheric scattering I'm guessing.

Based on Facebook posts, sunsets are the sedentary person's primary "connection with nature". ("Ooh... look at that, honey. Let's go to REI sometime and buy outdoorsy stuff."

Mt. bikers know how to celebrate/capture them better than most

    Catching Rainbows

So I checked the weather forcast, weather radar, time of sunset, tide tables and etc and figured I had a good chance of catching some rainbows as dusk approached; GoPro was set pointing east:

This is from last year. Sunsets are incredible. Jack can be riding his posterior off, but when that moment hits perception, the ride can stop, or quicken, for the top.

Your GoPro is in wide, 180 degree mode. It's good for POV but not so much for landscapes. Try the medium and narrow modes so you don't have a fisheye effect. Or their own software can take away the fisheye.

Wanna by me a new GoPro?

That sequence was taken with a Hero 960 and there's not much to control, 3 video resolution settings and a single format for stills.

I will give that GoPro Studio a try though; looks to be pretty powerfull.

OK I used GoPro Studio on the same image sequence; went with 16:9, 1080p and "Remove Fisheye". The remove fisheye filter didn't seem to change much; perhaps it was negated by going to the wider format?

The GoPro Studio works much better than the QuickTime Pro I have been using plus it's free! Thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody else notice that YouTube was down for several hours today? I thought my upload had broken it!

This one was taken when there was a fire in the area.

This picture was taken during a solar eclipse. The eclipse was reflected by a layer in the lens. I have a couple hundred pictures of this through out the eclipse.

This one was taken on 4/12. I was trying to get out of Coe before dark, and had been pacing my remaining energy on the easiest way out. Racing the sunset does not describe it properly, but in essence I was trying to get over the last ridge before the sun went down.

Well imagine my glee when I saw the sun go down just as I crested! I struggled to get my phone out and snapped this shot in the second after it went below the horizon.

Made it out in the dusk amidst a shrill chorus of crickets and frogs.

April 23 sunset near Hunters Point in Fremont Older Open Space.

Yes this is post processes. I saw it like this through my sunglasses. The interesting thing is that the sun was being reflected in the atmosphere above resulting in a mirror image. As well, the 45 degree contrail and a circular sundog contribute some additional effect.

    Was riding my fat bike.

That's an 22 degree halo and a sun pillar in one shot. We don't see these very often here. I was out riding too and glad I got to see it.

Awesome place to stay and convenient place to eat at. Was there back in May... I could move there but it's a bit more difficult to find trails to ride compared to the Bay Area.

    Thanks, griz!

There was an amazing display tonight but this time I was driving and I couldn't find a turn off fast enough that provided a decent view unobstructed.

    Last weekend, Mono lake:

This was Sunday night when the "blood moon" was supposed to happen along with the eclipse. A bunch of people (in the left of the frame) were out there to take pics. Turned out it was cloudy so no moon to be seen, but a fantastic sunset that all those people were missing as they were facing the other direction. So I turned around and took pics of them.

Nice one last night - Santa Cruz - probably should have waited a little longer for a better pic, but it was already getting pretty darn dark in those valleys..

This sunset is from a few years ago. There was a fire in the area. I remember watching it, taking a lot of pictures and just trying to soak it up, because I knew, chances are, I'd never see another sunset like this again.
