    Stolen Megatower Recovered by SFPD

SFPD recovered this last night at the Embarcadero and are trying to locate the owner. If yours, contact SFPD with serial numbers etc.

This is great news! On another note, this made me realize...I don't have the serial numbers to any of my bikes notated anywhere. Is it still common for that to be on the bottom of the bottom bracket?

I have all of mine written on the garage wall.

Yeah, they aren't always on the BB, my Santa Cruz has it hidden behind the lower link, hard to spot and is usually covered in dirt. I wonder if a cop could find it.

I have an old Spec. Allez that has it on the chain stay.

I also registered them at one of the registry sites. I don't remember which one.
Is there one that is better than others. Is there one that law enforcement uses? Seems like LEO could search that.

    Hope they find the owner.

Not sure how to reach this person.
[edit] This is marked as "not reported stolen" on bikeindex. What's the point of posting your bike if it's not stolen? Is it pre-emptive, like "I have it listed in case it ever goes missing?"

    Log in to bikeindex?

Note that apparently the bike in the picture was not stolen. Posts on FB have been removed.

There was something along those lines in the comments, then the whole post disappeared.

Holy crap. I've been seeing a guy ride a bike very similar to that up and down Market street all week. Struck me as an odd "commuter" bike. Wonder if it's this one?

Gotta get some more info on this...Pic from PD was at night on the Embarcadero so the guy was getting busted for whatever and they figured the bike was stolen? I hardly ever saw any bikes like that in SF
