    Skyline XC Race - Tires

    Sup Y'all -

    Its tire thread time!

Anyone racing Skyline next weekend or familiar with the course? Should I be thinking Downieville like tires or Old Cabin/Wente type tires?

If I go weight weenie it would be Aspens or Rekon race. If beefier I'd go with something like an Ardent Race or even a Rekon 2.4 on the front.

I have never been there and have no idea how chunky it is. Would love any thoughts!

BTW its just a for fun race so I'd rather a few more grams then a flat if its a tweener situation.

I really liked the Vittorio Mezcal but don't want to order two new tires if I can avoid and I have the others around home.

Its hardpack, and loose over hard with quite a bit of exposed rock (volcanic and square edged stuff) - think Annadel or Ridge in Santa Teresa. I would go for a little extra protection, a little more traction on the front with speed on the rear. Rekon would be a good choice.

WTB Velociraptors... oh wait, that's what I used in 1997 when I did this race.

The above advice is accurate. Loose over hard, decent amount of chunk, some rock-step type sections.

Thanks all! Maybe a Rekon race on back and leave the Rekon on front. That would be easiest (and free).
