    Skeggs this weekend?

Going to hopefully get down there this weekend for the first time...most likely Sunday but Sat if my plans fail.

So benja, santos to soon to hit it after your ride reports?

Recommend a loop that will not totally kill me off!

I'm going to hit it tomorrow early, so I'll post with a report tomorrow.

Recommend a loop? Hmm... There are a gazzillion loops. Maybe a better idea is a list of my fave Skeggs trails... Resolution, Mazanita, Steam Donkey, Blue Blossom (from the road). Include any of those or a couple and you'll have fun.

Skeggs isn't hi milage, but its big fun and you'll get a good workout.

any recommendations on trails that would have survived the past rains and still ridable?

    Skeggs is pretty dry...

Its still really soft and loamy in some sections (Sierra Moreno) but its not wet and sloppy, just soft. I'd give it a day or two more and it should be lovely.

The mosquitos however, are out in FORCE. Put on some DEET or whatever flavor of bug repellant because just getting geared up outside of the car was annoying with all the bugs.

The sucky news is that I think my chain was too short and I managed to pretzel my rear derailleur. The cassette just gobbled it up coming out of a bump in the trail. Super weird. Haven't done that in ages.

I've hit a few of the staple trails in the past week.

Springboard - still pretty wet but climbable, if you are into that kind of thing.

Lawrence - Consistency of refried beans. Avoid like the plague for another two weeks. It's a big mess. The climbs are currently unclimbable.

Manzanita - in good shape. All sandstone parts fared well, but the sections closer to timberview are still a little soft.

Blue Blossom - ripe. ready to go. Only one or two really soft spots, and the rest is tacky and sweet.

Steam Donkey - sloppy. way, way sloppy. I'd stay off the upper portion (btwn. totem gate on skyline and gordon) until the river that is flowing down the climbs dries out a little. The lower section has fared better, but has been more ripped by the water the closer you get to springboard.

Gordon - between lawrence and springboard there are a bunch of downed trees that require dismounting and a little crawling. Between Springboard and Skyline its clear save two slides, one of which is cleanable on the uphill, the other is a dismount.

Crosscut - Surprisingly, in good shape. It held up well.

Sierra Morena - stay off the section between CM01 and CM02. It's a mess.

    Enjoy it people.

    Sunday?

Let me know if you guys hit it up this Sunday. I'd be into getting a ride in down there again soon.

I rode Skeggs about a month ago and there was a big mudslide on Gordan Mill and quite few trees down here and there that required dismounting.

    I'm in!

    I'm in.

    PM sent with contact details.

Maybe we can ride somehting like:

    CM02 -> Sierra Morena -> Talfoni -> Fir -> Resolution -> ECdM -> Sierra Morena -> Methusalah -> Manzanita -> Timberview -> Gordan Mill -> Sierra Morena -> CM02

    That's about 11 miles.

I've never ridden Blu Blossom, so maybe we can add a Blue Blossom -> Spring Board loop ... that's about another 3.5 miles. I'm not sure which would be the best direction for that loop.

Skeggs from what I have found for directions, we are doing a ride sunday at 10 am there:

    HOW TO GET THERE

From I-280 take Hwy 84 West from the junction of Hwy 84 and Skyline Boulevard, go north on Skyline Boulevard 3.9 miles to Skeggs Point where parking is available.
