Got a few rides in on this machine and am going to swap the rear shock for an X2. Just because...the Super Deluxe feels actually really good.

Way to go. This is a dream of mine. Did you use a kit? Show me where? Or did you design and build yourself? Either way major props from me.

Designed and built myself. I used a tubeset from Nova cycle supply. The headtube, bb, and dropouts came from Paragon machine works.

Crosspost from here: new to me alloy Smuggler. Super fun trail bike. Ironically, very similar geo (but slightly more aggressive) to the Ripley v4 announced today, but cost me about $2k less.

Lots of great steeds here! I'm getting some 1250 gram 29er wheels so I have to think of a bike to build around it.

For now, I'm still riding this frame during the 10 week wait time. I have UHMW tape over the cuts and have downsized to 43mm tires. Checking for contact in the tape after every ride. I got through about 6 rides with the 43's until they swelled to 45.7 and now making contact with the frame again and with new, supposedly stiffer wheels.

I just don't have a great feeling about how things have gone with this bike. Now, I'll be looking for some 40mm tires to mount and test before the new frame comes in. I've spent a small fortune searching for the right tire.

Annoying... Also going to contact the maker of the new wheelset since they claimed I would not be able to flex them to make contact with the frame. Not sure where this will be going, but I took a chance on a relatively unknown wheel maker...

Damn... Hopefully this is a fluke. I'm on a 2018 and I weigh 240ish and riding off drops and jumps so this will make me check the bike every ride.

I, also torqued all the pivot botls and had to add loctite to the upper shock bolts because one of them kept coming loose every 2-3 rides. I've had some horrid noises come from the head tube on really hard hits or front braking done fast chunky lines...

I'm about due to due a full tear down and re-assembly/lube in the next couple weeks so I will be inspecting everything very closely... Thanks for sharing this

Rode my Sentinel at UC and Demo over the weekend. Jumped on today to do an after work ride and noticed coming down Old Santa Cruz that the rear end is super squirmy, like low rear air pressure. Got to the trailhead and did the wiggle test. Horrible creak from the lower main frame pivot. Not having a great feeling about this. Video sent to Transition.

Wish I could post it on here

^^^ That's a sweet bike. One of my favorite bikes of all time was a 2008 Giant Anthem 1. That bike handled well, jumped well, and was really a fast pedaler. But I have since 'upgraded' because that's what you're supposed to do, right? I'm sure if I rode it side by side with my HTLT my memories would be different!

Thanks man... pretty glad how it came out as I wasnt sure what to expect with that franken frame. At some point I might run a proper 27.5 fork so i can run bigger tires which will also raise the BB or maybe even a 29er front because that'll achieve the same thing with a slacker HA. Also 69er is such a fun thing to say...

I can play now. Bought the bike I wanted for the first time instead of the bike that was a deal. Insurgent LB with Push shock and a bunch of random parts on it, will be upgrading things here and there over the next 1.5 months and then it should be done.

I have no idea what kind of bike it was originally. I have never seen a vintage frame anything like it.

After almost 3 years exclusively on hardtails and curvy-bar bikes I just built up another Stumpjumper.

    S-Works Stump 29. Large. DPX2 Factory 140 rear travel
    Fox Factory 36 Grip 2 at 150
    GX Eagle
    XX1 Dub cranks, 175mm, 34t
    Guide RS 203/180
    Command Post 160mm
    Specialized Power expert Saddle
    Specialized bars and stem
    RaceFace Chester pedals for now
ROVAL Traverse Carbon hoops w/DT 350
    Butcher/Purgatory grid 2.6

29lbs, 7 ounces with pedals, bottle cages, multi tool, and empty SWAT burritos

I was about to throw on a spare set of XT pedals but turns out I have 2 sets with bent spindles.

RaceFace bar and stem coming this week.

Rode in Sly park Monday. Did all the good stuff. It sure is fun.

Not to be a Deborah D. Downer, as all of these rigs are in fact "lit" as the kids say these days, but the last time I posted pics of my bikes on MTBR to show off, I was robbed blind that following weekend. Not saying it had anything to do with anything other than my own doing, but it sure was a close cowinkidinki. $15,00o in carbon, mine and my roomates bikes GONE to some cabron. carbon.. cabron..

    New Megatower

My new bike for the year is a new SC Megatower and I have been loving it. I know that it is a big bike for Nor Cal but I have been riding it tons on the rougher stuff around here at it is a blast.

It is right at 31 lbs of fun 160mm travel.
