Let me know if anyone needs a weather forecast for where you live! (And if you want to know secret ways to see what the weather where you are planning to ride will likely be, PM me. Just donít tell others this info. Fight Club, right? )

It's a great light for the money in terms of power. Not sure of the battery life yet, but an hour on high had no effect on it last night. I'm not sure what lens color I have, it does appear a little blue for my tastes, but I may put a tint on it to warm up the color.

This was cutting through Arastradero on that steep gravel tree tunnel trail, dark enough to not be able to really see the trail (iPhone lightens up the sky quite a bit). Could see the trail perfectly with about 50 yards of beam throw.

Looks great! Way better than the $18 Shenkey Iím using on my helmet.

Is that the 1200 or 1700?

Had lots of trouble finding traction at demo this weekend. Is SC in better shape?

Did the hobo loop from La Selva down the train tracks through Aptos up to Sand point and beyond. Dry but plenty of traction to be had.

Morning temps in the Foothills have been perfect. Not too loose, but the forecasted moisture is welcome.

This is it... grave danger. Donít get heatstroke and donít light our forests on fire. It is the perfect blend of heat, dry and hot wind today.

September 20-26, 2019 Weekly Ride Stories

Did a 270 mile loop out around Downieville from my place in Foresthill. Pretty cold and wet at night, my camelback hose froze both nights, but the days were pretty spectacular. Always good to spend days on the bike.

As usual, pics are backwards. Guess I need to remember the bugs all those talented MTBR programmers canít seem to figure out or fix.

Greatest post-crash/surgery attitude. Ever. Good luck to you, sir!

Been doing a lot of night riding the past couple months, I like being in the woods at night. One interesting thing I've noticed is a significant increase in the number of bats I've seen and almost hit coming down the trail this summer, up on Skyline and down in the lowlands. Bats everywhere.

Sean: Amazing man, that makes me so jealous! I really want to start bikepacking. How many days were you out for?

50: I bet night riding conditions are absolutely perfect right now. My regular riding buddy posted a night ride from tonight. Also made me jelly, but psyched to see the reports, thanks all

Its not real hard to get into, there is a cost of course, but you can dirt bag it pretty easy. Unfortunately there isn't a real cohesive group of bikepackers in this part of the state, or this state for that matter as there are in other states. I'd be happy to help you out if you have some questions, I can at least point you in the general direction of someone or somewhere that can answer your questions.

That trip was a total of three days out. Two full days and an evening and morning to begin and end the trip, about 26 hours total riding time. I did 3 nights out, work got in the way the first day and I couldn't leave till after 5 pm.
Big climbing on this trip, I ended up around 32,000' over those days. It's always cool rolling up on shuttle riders that just saw you climbing up to Packer Saddle and now you're asking to get by with all your gear on.
Finally had to take second divide to get away from all the people. I think it was some kind of demo weekend so all kinds of folks were out there. Town was a zoo, but it's always cool to see folks on bikes having fun, no matter how you find that fun.
Otherwise it was a pretty solitary weekend. Saw a few bikes going up into Tahoe Donner but otherwise not many folks out in the forest, dirt was really good from the rains that week.

It was hot yesterday. Rode in the teeth of the heat. Even the squirrels were going nuts. A squirrel ran right into my front tire hard on the climb, then mouthed off some obscenities in squirrel chipmunk language like it was my fault.

don't know what it is about me and bats at Tamarancho, but I've been hit in the head twice there at dusk/night. Couple nights ago I got swooped at a few times.

At night, anytime there are lots of gnats and flying bugs, there are bats!
