Testing the Garmin 830 on a small gap jump. Pretty accurate.

Perfect day for riding in Auburn, CA today.

I did almost die when I came in way too hot on bunch of rocks on Confluence Trail, went over the bars, and started tumbling down the exposed cliff with my bike toward the American River. Fortunately I was able to grab a tree with one hand and my bike with the other to stop the slide. Took a while to get back to the trail though. I also have barely a bruise to show for it, but the pattern of my knee pad's ventilation holes is scraped out of my flesh, so the armor definitely saved my ass.

    Wear your pads, guys.

Crosspost from Passion. For Norcal relevance, this was up and down the southeast side of Lake Natoma on Friday after work.

    Not my knee...

Yesterdayís ride was different. It was a route Iíd done before. But for most of the ride, instead of winching along, I was out of the saddle, a gear or two higher, pedaling in bursts.

I havenít felt like this in a long time. I canít remember. I had open heart surgery this year to improve the way blood flows through my enlarged heart. Iím never going to be fit, per se, but itís helped a lot. For ten years before that my symptoms kept me from doing anything intense at all. I had symptoms every day that a normal person would interpret as a heart attack. I still do... but now my worst day since is about like my best day before. Six months later, Iím healed enough to breathe hard and use my upper body strength.

But itís more than that. The mood changed with the ability. I felt like a little kid riding through Arizona creosote and arroyos again. The way I did then, without any foreknowledge that my trails were soon to become tract housing.

I liked it. I have better times and worse ones since the surgery. This was a little bit of lightning in a bottle. I hope I can catch it again.

Also I need to finally buy this bike a dropper ;-)

Clips kind of like this are used for the suspension hinges of R/C cars. We called them Jesus clips. Because you soooo caaaarefully ease them off and JESUS there it went

Awesome! Not every ride can be like that, but it sure is nice when it happens! IMO, you reached that zen state that people who are really passionate about something are always trying to achieve. Some people calling it "in the zone" or "being in the moment". Regardless of what its called, it sure is magically while you are there!

I went to the one on Senter Road in San Ho last month. No line, sailed through. It kinda shook me up.

Finally starting to know my way around Skeggs! Rode Sierra Morena/Oljon/Blue Blossom/Crossover/Crosscut/Giant Salamander/methuselah/Manzanita and climbed back out Timberview.

Five minutes in we were stopped for speeding and riding up a tiny side berm (not one of the ones marked ďstay on trailĒ) by a couple rangers with a clipboard and Radar gun. Clocked at ďover 20mphĒ but let off with a friendly warning. I learned from the ranger that e-bikes are not allowed? Better tell the guy that smoked me on the uphill at full power last week!

Senter Road DMV is money. Also come at 4pm, not at dawn. They will get you out by closing... 5pm

Real ID requirement is killing them.

Triple A can handle most tasks too

    The Wet Mile UCX

    Sept 27-Oct 3, 2019 Weekly Ride Compositions-c8e6b755-8b6f-4256-9c7a-01a7fc92ecd2.jpg
Is it possible to have TO much fun? Happened to me on Sunday while enjoying The Wet Mile Urban Cyclocross on Mare Island. My very first attempt at CX, riding my fs Santa Cruz which works just fine. Riding in, around and through historic buildings, cranes & gantries with a few stairs and water obstacles thrown in made for an amazingly fun day.
Props to the the promoters of the Mare Island PedalFest for their work!

Went riding over the weekend with a couple of friends and my wife. One friend just got into mountain biking about a year ago, and last time I rode with her she was afraid of riding on anything other than a fire road. Fast forward a few months and she's doing jumps, going down steeps and railing turns! Incredible how much one can progress in a very short period of time by consistently working on areas of improvement, which is what she does. I was shocked, impressed, and now inspired.

Warnings only so far for e-bikes. When stopped, E-bikers can politely point out that at least most e-bikes have speedometers!

A driver killed a man by running over him repeatedly at San Antonio Park and also injured one more person. Craziness.

Ok I feel like I should have known this, but didnít realize my Garmin 530 has this feature too. Did a quick check of my ride last weekend at Demo. Suppose distance is speed over air time, though Iím not sure how accurate it is.

It's an interesting feature. Must be an accelerometer in the head unit with a threshold limit to weed out small bumps. I paced out a few small jumps and it's surprisingly accurate for me.

I think I finally found the 15 of them yesterday.

I park at Costco and ride up EMT. I finish with the postal route and from the bottom of that back to Costco it's 20 easy minutes pretty much all flat and downhill (and less than 10 minutes on pavement).
