Before this slips away, I recommend you do this. This is a good example of the epic riding we have here in Mendocino and this is fully supported. Nugjug

Pre-rode the route this week. Did the climbs at a zone 2/3 pace.

That's a little less climbing than the 8,000 feet of vert that is being advertised for the 50 mile route! no offense, but the lessened amount (5,600 vert over 50) is a little less appealing as I was planning on using this as a training ride for the Tahoe-Sierra 100. I suppose the 70 mile version will be closer to 8k?

The Garmin was a little wonky on the first pass. Same Garmin that read 8k first time around read 5.7k this time. There are a few hundred more feet than shown on the route, we cut off part of the finish to go directly into town.

Yes, the longer version will have the 8k. I understand where you're coming from wanting to get the footies in, believe me it's still a full serving.

Thanks...I'm sure it will be an ass kicker either way (and super fun too). Still hoping that I can make it.

Come out for all day singletrack riding with the locals Saturday before the race!

Singletrack Saturday with the Mendocino Coast Cyclists! | Raid on Sherwood Peak

Rides starting around noon. Plenty of time to get up, have breakfast and drive up. Then it's free camping and a party until the Raid starts Sunday morning.

Lots of nice stuff to give away from E13 / The Hive people!

You gotta play to win though. Who's the fastest NorCal MTRBer coming up?

Anyone happen to know when race-day check-in closes? I prob have to drive up from the Bay Area Sunday morning and want to be sure they're still handing out numbers when I get there.

Do you find yourself saying "I want to do this, but I'm not sure about what the food he's promising will be like"? Are you expecting a sad little 1/4# frozen hockey-puck burger and the small, chinsy size bag of chips as the meal?

Let me put it to you this way, it's a buffet so take all you like and eat all you take:

    Fire Grilled Marinated London Broil

    Rosemary Potatoes

    Vanilla BBQ Chicken Breast

    Roasted Corn on the Cob

Blackened Salmon w/ Spring Onion Rice

    Penne Pasta

Red Pepper Cream and Fresh Arugula

    Spinach Salad w/ Fresh Peaches

    Lentil Salad w/ Roasted Vegetables

    Black Bean-Cilantro Salad and Chips

    Chocolate Kringle Cookies

    Fresh Strawberries and Watermelon

Yes, this is the meal that's included in the entry fee.

Hungry yet? Give it 50 or 60 miles and let's talk then!

The trophies are coming together nicely too. Made by Nick Taylor, the same Ft. Bragg artist who made the Ibis Maximus!

It would look nice on your mantle, yes?

This is one of your best chances as a last tune up before DV or the Tahoe Sierra 100.

Come out and play with us this Saturday and Sunday!

Just wanted to give a shout out to Murphy & crew for putting on a great event yesterday. Great atmosphere, kick-ass course, amazing post-race BBQ & beers. Was totally worth the 3 hour drive up and back. Looking forward to seeing what else Murphy might have up his sleeve. He knows how to put on an event!

    Awesome Event!

Helping with this event was a great experience and a whole lot of fun!
Everything was very well set up, with no shortage of food or drink!
The course was a suffer fest but everyone I saw and talked to had smiles and good things to say about it!
Thank you Murphy and crew for putting on this great event on the Mendocino Coast!
And a very big thank you to the Hawthorne Timber Company for opening their camping area and logging roads for this race!

This race was way more fun than 4 hours of fire roads had any right to be. But holy crap the views.

And the fact that we came up the day before and rode some of that sweet sweet Mendo singletrack made the 6ish K of climbing on Sunday ok.

Chris, you and the crew as usual put on a spectacular time for all of us. Thanks for the guiding on Saturday and the beer handups on Sunday.

Well, I was too busy breathing though my eyeballs to take pictures, but course setup hipsters slacking:
