Potential Mtn Bike and Zip Line Park in Gilroy

I think my city is in need of some positive news in light of the recent events. I had heard some rumors that there were discussions going on at city level to developed the area around Gilroy Gardens. Gilroy Gardens is a city-owned facility and owns pretty much the entire backside of that park. I had been told they were looking at developing the area for a lift served mtn bike and zip line park.

Well, here is the first official bits I could find about it. On Monday, council was given a detailed presentation by the developer, Select Contracts. I don't know how likely this is to happen and when but that would be very cool to have access to this without having to spend 3-4 hours going to North Star.

Anyhow, if you want to hear about it, you can see the council meeting video here: Video Outline - City of Gilroy, CA

Just click on "Gilroy Gardens Presentation of Its Master Plan Phase I, Proposed Hillside Development" link on the agenda to be taken to the part where they talk about this project.

It makes sense to build a MTB park in the area and/or some modern theme parks. Plenty of people in Bay Area and tourists to visit.

Pretty exciting! I hope it goes through. I'd guess that the demand would be pretty high.

That works or go the 40 minute mark. The talk is about 16 minutes. I couldn't find anything in agenda pdf on this.

Looks like about 1,000 foot(?) downhill.
    Long live long rides

Potential Mtn Bike and Zip Line Park in Gilroy

    This is GREAT news!

Google: Michael Bonfante. The original vision of ‘Gilroy Gardens’ was so much more than an amusement park.

Gilroy should go crazy, I'd stop (and maybe crash) on the way down south.

I'm not likely a user of this kind of park, but it does seem like a cool concept.

    536 acres seems small.

If you build it they will come.

I'll come down from San Ho for sure. Good luck!

People seem to love that new Spider Mountain bike park in Texas and I think they only have like 400-500ft of vert. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Hope it materializes.

I'm glad the speaker mentioned black-diamond flow trails will be part of the initial build with more to follow as it grows. I will def ride there if it gets done in my functional lifetime.....tick.....tick....tick
