Son and I had a chance to ride some of the new trail. Did a very abbreviated loop but still hit tons of good stuff!

    On the climb up.

Trying out my new back up light. Runs on 2 CR2032 batteries that can last (in the off position) for 10 years. Pretty bright, good enough to get home in the dark. Of course, I have my Trump taking a Dump keychain for extra back up.

Thatís a great question. I was thinking it was close to release but after this morning, Iím re-thinking things. Took someone new (he found it and rode portions of it on his own) on the full Monty and the trip ended with an OTB, ER, Dentist visit. I have work to do /sad. I felt terrible.

On a side note, I bought my son and I full faced helmets as soon as I got home. It was not pretty and makes $100 seem like a super cheap anti-dental implant investment

Did some riding in the Arnold area this weekend. A short Alpine lake loop on Fri afternoon and on Sat we rode the Arnold Rim Trail. The ART was awesome! The fall colors were great and the weather was awesome! Lots of different kinds of terrain. Most of what we rode had moist dirt. I couldn't believe it! Been a long time since I've seem anything but dust. 4K climbing in 18 miles with some hike a biking thrown in. Too fun!

Such a good weekend of riding 3.5 hours at Lake Cunningham Saturday and UC on Sunday. Still dry but so much fun getting drifty - good times...

My Longest Ride in Quite Awhile

Wife was gone, chores and honey-dos were done and I found myself with time on my hands yesterday. My selection of riding buddies were unavailable for a variety of reasons (I'm sure some were watching the 9-ers get their asses kicked!) and my boys were both out of town. I was solo. Bonus!

Prepped the old SSweetSSpot and off into Annadel; aka, My Happy Place.

As is typical for a Sunday, the place was bustling. Since I was solo, I didn't have anyone dictating either the pace or the route. So, for the first time since August '17 (before the fires), I was able to get to the far side of the park, i.e. Lawndale and Schultz trails. I was only partly prepared for the devastation. Lawndale was actually pretty good, as the sight lines have opened up quite a bit.

The most shocking thing about Schultz, was not necessarily the trail itself. It was more about the missing neighborhood getting to the trail head. The place has been wiped clean. No houses, very few trees, no bushes, nothing... save one house being rebuilt. It's been roofed, sheeted and wrapped in Tyvex. All the rest of the houses are at present nothing more than cleared building pads.

The Ride: Enter on Park Trail, up Canyon to the lake. Then Lake trail, up Richardson, up and over S. Burma, up Marsh, down Lawndale, up Lawndale and Schultz roads and back to the park. Then, it was up Schultz (when did that get so #@$@!* rocky?!?!), back to Marsh, back to the lake, down Spring Creek and back out Canyon and Park Trail.

I don't strava, but my legs felt all the climbs on the old SS. I did run into a husband and wife couple at the top of Lawndale who asked what the hell I was doing on "that thing"? Oh well, I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess.

Fun, low key, home grown event, with cool scenery and some of the best tri tip I've ever had at an event. Hollister Hills is FUN descending on a CX bike!

4 days in camping Hope Valley. Decent colors but kind of hit and miss. Cold in the mornings, low teens in the valley, great in the afternoons. Great way to end the year as the window is probably going to be closing soon.

    Saturday at Coe...

Today's target, a place in Coe I hadn't been before, Little Long Canyon.

    Little Long Canyon Road:

A gate at the crest. This is not the park boundary. I walked a little ways past this...

...and could see that the road dropped down into this valley, then split into 4 or 5 roads going to private properties.

Bear Mountain Road, sometimes it simply goes down the streambed:

The bottom of Blue Ridge Road promises a ranger station. Well, you can get there from here but it's not that simple.

    Miller Field:

The skeletons of Madrones burned in the 2007 fire line Blue Ridge Road:

Jackass is a ridgeline trail but it's pretty twisty as weaves through the vegetation. I used to get out here regularly but it has been years since I rode this.

A view of The Narrows from the Shafer Corral Trail:

And The Narrows from ground level. Rough going. Mostly walking through here.

Can you see the Praying Mantis? It's difficult. This color scheme is new to me. At first I thought it was one of those "walking stick" bugs.

    Tarantula on Coit Road:

Trail Report: A large Oak has fallen across Anza Trail. Location is near the intersection with Grapevine. That odd signpost for Woodchopper Spring (I think?) is in there somewhere.

I considered renting a bike and reporting trail conditions from Maui until I saw the bikes the place was renting for their "Downhill MTB Ride" tour. I pictured trying to ride one of those down a volcano slope, wearing a motorcycle helmet no less. Shizz was about to get real until I found out it's a guided tour with no passing allowed. Needless to say we didn't book the tour so no epic DH footage for the forum. lol

Maui use to have a mountain bike park but it closed about 2 years ago. Unfortunate... road biking best bet in Maui.

I am 2yrs too late then. Makes it easier to persuade Jeni to go to Alaska instead because they have a bike park.

Those dinosaurs are pathetic, and potentially dangerous! With what they charge, the Maui company could afford modern FS quality bikes. That would dissuade me from going there, as I try to plan vacations around mountain biking.

We rented bikes in Sedona earlier this year, and they were $4500 Carbon Fiber Trek Fuel 29ers, and only $50 for 4 hours.
