The California Department of Parks and Recreation with assistance from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection plan to begin a prescribed burn at Wilder Ranch State Park starting today (Monday, Nov. 26) as conditions allow.

This prescribed burn is being conducted to reduce the threat of wildfire and to enhance natural resources within the park. Some trails may be closed briefly during these operations to ensure public safety. http://files.constantcontact.com/fac...b15f62fe6f.pdf

Rode Fort Ord from Creekside today------conditions are perfect-----even goat was fine but another storm and it will get muddy----the rest of the area was as good as it gets---and 70 degrees today---lots of riders at the trail head but once moving only saw a few

Smoke was worse on campus proper than it was on upper campus. Sorry to the one dude who I'm sure I was in his way for a short portion of my ride.

With rain forecast for the rest of the week I hope everyone got at least a short ride in, it's gonna get sloppy out there quick.

    Yes
But I would still keep an eye out for rangers, and/or stick to the designated trails.

I rode China Camp Sunday and Monday and the conditions are perfect. I rode both East and West sides. Mid morning the weather was mild and great temps.

    Sunday

Rode the East side and everything was awesome and grabby, fast. A lot of the off-camber stuff was easier and faster to ride. Ran into a pack of dudes mid-day, I was on an Orange 5010 and chased after them for a bit. Any of you in that?

    Monday

Bayview had a tiny bit of mud at the bottom. The south side of the Bayview\Shoreline loop is pretty dry from more sun exposure. The rest is damp and grabby! I only ride this loop occasionally as I prefer the more technical trails, but yesterday it was super fun, I felt like I was riding considerably faster than usual, and better, due to traction. I have a DHF up front and an Aggressor in back, both 2.5" on wide rims running 16psi in front and 18psi in back. They felt great.

delValle was great. North sides and east facing were still damp, south and west were dry but not dusty. Did a short ride with the dog who needs her own Strava account as she was crushing it unlike her dad.

I got one in just before the rain started. Just a quick Dero loop. I've gotten lazy riding these fast XC tires on my HTLT. Time to go back to DHR's.

I put on some fenders, a coat and went on a 2 hour ebike road, fire road ride.

I have a 50min trainer out my front door in Tam Valley up TVR to the stables, up Marincello and down Old Springs. Snuck it in this afternoon, tiny bit of mud here and there but otherwise bangin'. The shale shard fire road that tore my elbow up this summer was fun and grabby, it's amazing how much faster damp ground is.

There's a funky air traffic control Gizmo up there, pictured.

Not really but depends on what time you go. Afternoons/early evenings have a couple of folks but nothing major. Best winter Norcal spot I know and so much fun & diversity.

We are categorically screwed as far as good trail riding is concerned for the rest of the week and the weekend.

I'm not sure if I mentioned but all the Santa Cruz and Peninsula trails were already saturated last Tuesday, before this last round arrived.

(This is one way to keep warm while riding.) This was a control burn, piles of deadwood set ablaze, 30 feet off the trail and shooting 40-50 feet in the air. Nothing to worry about here: just ride on! The forester who started the blaze just before I rode by encouraged me to go further and look at the line of fires. Such a cool thing to experience.

Out and back ride, two and a half hours later the blaze had settled down. It was 47 degrees, but this section of trail was nice. This is under snow now, so great timing. There were probably a hundred stacks ready to be lit, and the guy says that he will lite them all this fall.

    Location: Shaver Lake Perimeter trail.
