Nov 23 - 25, 2018 Post Thanksgiving Weekend Ride and Trail Conditions Report

Looks like a lot of rain for most of NorCal this weekend (and some snow in Tahoe area?).

Trail conditions reports will be important over the weekend and next week, photos appreciated.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Is it acceptable to ride Joaquin Miller Sat morning after the rains? I don't want to needlessly rut out any trails.

JMP usually does well after rains. There will be standing water in a few areas but the singletracks tend to drain well.

Backside of CC (Dominican - Barbier) holds up really well during and after a heavy rain. Probably because the whole area is on the side of a cliff ;-)

First time in my 20 plus years of riding the Fairfax Turkey ride, appetite seminar the rangers forced us to cut the route short. No go for the full loop up over Pine Mountain. We had to stay on San Geronimo ridge past Repack. SG ridge had just been graded and about 200 yards was full on peanut butter. Conditions were good on 90% of the ride. Oh well, first time for everything.

I will most likely hike it tomorrow. Will report. I have ridden Skeggs many, many times in the rain and after rains. I doubt it has rained enough yet to saturate much there.

Looks clear Sat, Sun, Mon. But riding on Saturday will be very tricky. Don't do it in the morning, and be very selective. Find steep, rocky, sandy trails.Nov 23 - 25, 2018 Post Thanksgiving Weekend Ride and Trail Conditions Report-screen-shot-2018-11-23-8.52.22-pm.jpg

Skeggs was a little wetter than prime, but totally rideable. The fog up there is pretty heavy as well.

Fog and drizzle at Skeggs is one of the most beautiful rides imho. Will ride it tomorrow.

Single track at Henry W Coe SP remain closed:

    planning-your-visit/trail-conditions

Probably will be OK tomorrow for a day or so until the next rain. Check the above link.

FWIW Coe got around 3" for the storm, several trails/roads are blocked due to fallen trees.

Wilder chooses to close when they don't feel comfortable getting their trucks up the fireroads for emergency situations. The bluff / coastal trail in Wilder is usually open (and UC never closes).

Ride through puddles or walk through the area of mud to not widen the trail - keep singletrack single!

Or use a stick to carve out some drainage for the puddle.

What a great day! Beautiful weather, clean air. Group rode the entire loop this morning with two who had rode it before and one who was a newbie to it. We all had a fantastic ride. Got home and then hiked almost the whole loop with the wife. Conditions are perfect!

Oh yeah, I'm a believer that if a few good back of the shoe kicks can't help drainage then it's a lost cause. There are a few flat zones and low points that will never drain in that area.

45 miles of Nevada City goodness. TaxiCab, Pioneer to Omega, Hallelujah, Hoot and Miners for the win. Pretty good conditions by the end of the day. Ended the day at Fernigans for the first time for me, good grub to be had there!
