    NorCal Racing Discussion

Anyone know of another site or email list where there is discussion of NorCal races? I'm looking for race updates, course conditions, event history, race reports, etc.

    Thanks!
Take a look at and consider "liking" our VAR Facebook and VAR Instagram pages.

I know a few good road race emal lists, but I don't know any mtb race email lists. www.ncnca.org will list most of the norcal bike races Ron's list seems to be pretty similar to the ncnca list.

I'd be interested in finding out which race site Sabine thought was good.

Dang, Vic, you've finally got the courses nailed. There's not a bad course on that list, in fact they are all courses that I'd travel for if it was necessary. It is so good to see Tish Tang up there again, too. Love that course. Are the Hoopa High kiddies going to be handing out cookies at the feed zones again?

Any truth to the rumor that you've extended the BF Classic singletrack out to the lake? Need some folks to ride it in? Work on it?

Nor Cal Racing: Worst year ever?

Is it just mne or is this the worst year ever for racing the MTB in N. Cal? The 3 races that were real MTB races are gone: Shasta, Downieville & Tahoe Hopper. Don't even get me going about the Infinion Race. I may have to take up road racing

    I'm with ya

I miss Shasta too - the new course is great, but the old one, done in the snow, will always hold a place in my heart. Nothing touches the Chute as far as tough descents go.

Like you I simply miss the old-style epic courses. Lemurian, Humbug, Whiskeytown (remember?), Lagrange

For what it's worth, the Tish Tang course is very similar - 9 mile, 3000-3500 foot fireroad climb with singletrack back down. The singletrack goes from way fast to steep and scary. Very fun. Lagrange is also a throwback and really fun. It started in the Lemurian era too.

    directions

Tish Tang (it actually starts at Horse Linto Camp, then ascends Tish Tang Ridge) is just out of Willow Creek, off hwy 299 about 45 minutes from Arcata. There are some reviews on the mtbr trail reviews section, but no good pics that I know of.

Race info is on the teambigfoot.net site. If you just want to ride it, check with revolution bikes in arcata for directions. It's important to know the trails or you can good good and lost while missing the good stuff. It's about a 3.5 hour ride if you're just having fun.
