Upset No lift served biking at Northstar this season

I didn't see this news posted so ...

"Northstar-at-Tahoe has canceled its mountain bike season this summer to allow for continued construction of the resort’s new village and the addition of several lifts to the mountain."

    http://sierrasun.com/article/2006042...73243149873299

Confirmed at the N* web site ... http://www.northstarattahoe.com/info...mtn-biking.asp

Not sure what this means for folks (like me) who don't use the lifts but sometimes end up on the trails

actually there has been quite a few threads about this - both here and on www.RideMonkey.com

yeah it sux - but it's not like there isn't any riding to be had! for me that means I'll be doing more trail riding, more trips to Downieville/mammoth and more trail building.

    Cheers!

I don't mean to start nasty rumors but I heard two things from a mammoth local this weekend.

    1. The nationals will not be held there. They are in the process of looking for alternate locations.

    2. There's a good chance there will be no or limited DH biking there this summer because they might stay open for skiing as long as possible.

Yep, dead horse. But give'er nother kick for norcal

With the late season snow this is going to be another late season for mtb in the hills. Northstar will be back next season and may even be better.

What other resorts in the Tahoe area are good for riding? I was planning to spend a lot of time at Northstar this summer but with the lifts out...

    umm...................none.
northstar is/was the only lift resort with good DH trails. i think kirkwood runs the lifts, but you get to ride down fireroads groomed for rigids.

where you gonna be building luc?

The only thing comparable to N* (with lifts and Dh and event/races) is Mammoth. I don't think Mammoth will be fully open anytime soon with all the snow they still have there.

    Gondola Riding

I know it is kinda a long drive for some of you, but Willamette Pass in Oregon runs gondola's Friday-Sunday 10am-8pm and it is only $12 a day...only been open a couple summers so it is not Whisler, but still some fun rides.
