Newbee needs advice regarding best route to climb Mt. Tam

    Hi Everyone,

Just starded riding Mt bikes again after 10 years and would like to climb Mt Tamalpais. What would be the best/easiest route? I will be driving from SF and would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks in advance. Ride safe.

    John

Easiest route is to go up Railroad Grade from Mill Valley. You can ride to the West Pt. Inn and turn around or go higher to the road leading to the East Peak and ride back down. If you climb to the road you can ride down Eldridge and cut back across the mountain on some fire trails, but that is a longer ride.

    Ditto.

I like Railroad to Eldridge/Hoo-Koo-E-Koo and down, but it is about 18 miles.

    Railroad grade.

Eldridge grade and HookooEKoo will be even better.

But down E.G. takes some skills

    Up and down RR Grade

Keep it simple. Save the other trails for after you get this under your belt.

a 10 year hiatus means crushing down Eldridge might not be too much fun, and might be a bit dangerous... and all the vibration you body is going to absorb will not feel so great the next day.
