Trey and Camille continue to do excellent work. Their events are top-notch. Iíve worked with them on the NAEC.

I spent a lot of time around Yreka and Shasta in the late 90s. Iíd love to go back and check it out now.

Shasta is same weekend as China Peak CES, Oregon round is same weekend as Northstar EWS, and Idaho is same weekend as Humboldt Enduro.

But I like the idea of new and different formats of gravity mountain bike racing being introduced.

Shasta and Humboldt (and N*) for this punter! Keeping it Norcal and not too serious

Delete N* -it's sold out anyway.

If this is a new series, itís either poorly planned or just unfortunate coincidence!

Oh well, those dates may have been the only options they had. The local racers probably won't be too bummed the hardcore CES/EWS Enduro racers won't be able to make it......

Cascadia is a long-running series, and widely considered one of the best-run in the country. With 5 years of series planning experience myself, itís impossible to make dates line up smoothly with all possible conflicts. There are only so many weekends in a season. Our experience is that about half our racers are regulars who follow us, and the other half are local. Because of that, conflicting dates arenít always a show-stopper.

Cascadia sounds like more fun. Isn't Shasta still under show?

I only had a chance to sample some of the higher Shasta trails last summer, but they were rowdy and legit. The lower trail system was more XC, but still lots of fun--especially after some rain. And the skills park and skate park are worth checking out, too.

Will there be any uphill pedaling or are guys racing their triple crown bikes?

It said all lift access, so I donít see why a DH bike wouldnít be an option.

What's a triple crown bike? You mean a dual crown?

    Mt Shatsa local here.

So far all of the Enduro races at the Ski Park have been climb up once (750' ish) then lift to a short climb (250' ish) for stage 2 then lift up for stage 3 and stage 4. Total of 1000' climbing. I raced a full DH last year in one of them and it wasn't that bad a climb. I did have to push about 100-200 yards total.

Hope to see you all there!

The mountain is indeed still loaded with snow: https://www.mtshastanews.com/news/20...toric-averages

Warm temps have just arrived this week.

Thanks for the info - Did the stages have enough fast/gnar to make the DH bike a better choice than a 'super enduro'? How many other DH rigs did you see?

A reference to a 'triple-tree' moto fork which used a triple-clamp design: 2 stanchions and the steerer tube being clamped together. I think we MTBers messed it up.

Mad River is super tempting this year.... Is registration closed, or just not open yet? I missed out last year due to relocation woes...

Shasta trails have come so far over the years and so much effort has been made to wake that sleepy little place up.

Can't forget to pack the 4wt Fly Rod and stop off along Hat Creek for a day or two..

I'll add them to my feed. I follow Revolution Bicycles, myself and know those guys are the epitome of Party In The Woods. Great bunch of hardcores.

Only 1 other DH rig. The trails are not super gnarly, just loose. At the time my other options were a rigid fat tire bike and a 29er xc whip.

An enduro bike will handle everything they have without too much issue.

No real big drops, and only two "real" jumps. A road gap and the exit jump. Each of those are about 12-15 footish.

Video of the DH course was posted here last summer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1WmIafko1o

It does look like from the race description that the ride is all dh with no pedaling.

Nice! thanks for the link. Is the course in the video one of the stages?

Yes the "DH" trail at the skipark is shown in the youtube video and it will be part of most of the races they hold there, excluding XC and Dual Slalom events.

I have some videos from a couple of years ago of their other trails posted here: Mt Shasta Ski Park's 2019 Mt Biking Season Events Schedule. Lift accessed Downhill Mountain Bike Trails in store for you in Northern California. Powered by www.TheBikeStore.com

They run two lifts during the Summer. Douglas lift hosts the DH and Right Side Trail and the Marmot lift has a Beginner, A couple of cool Flow trails and some XC stuff.

The Ski Park is holding a volunteer trail maintenance day on Friday June 21st:https://www.facebook.com/events/655770554854937/

Great chance to get up close and personal with their trail network before the racing season kicks off for them.

The work day has been rescheduled for June 21st.

The trail work day was first scheduled for the week before, however on the original date there is going to be a memorial service for a local man who died in an accident a short time ago.

    https://www.skipark.com/the-mountain/leif-hansen/

The most recent info I have is that the tentative opening date is still June 15th. The snow will go quick at their elevation.
