for some reason I really like riding Ft. Ord....

and yes, i know it's about as technical as a parking lot...but still fun as hell.

edit: dammit, just realized the made the route the wrong way. now it's gonna hurt more...

that will be fun, hopefully there's no fog. that can be gnarly at night. GBE puts on a great race, too.

    - If it was S.O. you would be riding down the roads and climbing the singletrack.

    CHUMs link isn't working correctly.

This race sounds like a lot of fun and/or painful.

Yeah, but some of those descents, while not that technical, are like roller coaster steep! Wheeee!!!!

Gotta pay attention, especially at 3 am.

I, for one, am WAY interested in a 24 hour race at Laguna Seca/Fort Ord. I always had a blast at the 24hoa events, even though the promoters had... uh... issues.

I wonder if I can talk the wife into letting me go for a weekend... and some BB&T crew into racing with me on a team?

You're totally right.. Ord is spooky at night in the fog.. This year we counted 47 days of fog in a row.. They don't call it June Gloom for nothing!

I think they missed some double track on that course! Kidding!!! I know that part of course design is a) Getting in the miles. b) Getting in rescue equipment. The gravel roads are great for the latter. The course is similar to the 24HOA Worlds a few years back. That was lots of fun! Too bad they did not include Couch at the end like the 24HOA.

The terrain is great for cross country riding. It can be pretty dangerous on a few sections. Where the "road" that comes off of Wolf Hill and transitions into "single track" (where you start to climb at the base after going down the "runway") has seen some bad carnage. I was marshalling SOC one year at the top of 50 and got to see the Cal Star folks fly in for a fallen rider that graced the dirt with his collar bone...just shy of hitting single track.

Its ON: We dont need no stinkin bridges

Great news!! We have a the new Hammerstein 8 & 24hr MTB race at Laguna Seca on June 8-10th!!
There will be no dismounting at this event. No Bridge crossing dismount. Great course. Power and water hook ups for the trailers. Laguna Seca has hot showers. Santa Cruz Ale Works is making a Hammerstein Beer just for this event.

In NorCal, there is also Bogg's 8-Hour and the 12 Hours of Weaverville (both in May).

Then you should sign up for bike orienteering race there (not a shameless plug, as I am not affiliated with them - but I really want this type of races to develop in the area).

What, all you racer boys can not handle a map? Need some yellow ribbon to tell where to ride?

    Then join a team.

This one is actually trail only, so only route optimization is involved. Foot races offroad are a bit more challenging to find your way, but no rocket science either, even at night.

Thanks laces. I worry about Boggs being "fast" enough for me to get the 70 miles. I'll look at Weaverville.

    Just signed up today!!

We went and had a really nice ride at Laguna before the rain hit. Course is fast. We had a great time. Talked to Jimmy and said that Hammerstein is filling fast!. Doing solo 8 hrs. This should be a great warm up for the Tahoe Sierra.
