I need someone to buy the keg and bring it to the event and return it. I'll give you cash money at the picnic.

I’ll be there with my wife and kids. No bike riding for me unfortunately. I will be bringing some sort of food oriented thing though, home made wholesome goodness. Since I will have a designated ride back, I can get belligerent off the keg if need be.

I just might make it but would like to throw a wrench into the mix. Do we really need a keg? Whose gonna want to party that hard knowing we will all likely be driving home and many won't be there to reap the benefits of a job well done.

I propose we all bring what we want (food for pot luck/beer or other if you want to drink) and have a raffle/drawing for the $100. Top prize $50, Second prize $30, Third prize $20, Fourth Prize MTB Tee (mine got losted). Everyone on the team has a chance to win (although I think you had to do at least 10k footies to be eligible).

Sorry if this is lame but might be more fun and less hassle.

When there is a keg, everyone wins that can make it. A raffle only produces a few winners.
I'd rather have a keg with some friends than a fifty in my pocket anyway.

    My two cents

I bought some garmin 500's for friends and I have 5 extra ones. You have to be at the KOM party and you have to give me $200 moneys! That includes tax and shipping.

You can call dibs here in case these are popular.

Yes, I think we should have two or three rides. One that goes up Stevens Canyon Road and one that goes up via Montebello.

Can you be ride leader Marco on the Stevens Canyon?

10000' average per ride for 21/27 days? We could not hang. Ever. She needs to meet Sean Allen.

Since it is up the road, I can call up Devil's Canyon for a 5 gallon keg of Full Boar Scotch Ale if that works?

That + jockey box + ice would run just under $100. It might be too short notice, though.

BTW, Devil's Canyon was out of jockey boxes. They hopefully will get some returned by the time I pick up the keg but does anyone know if BevMo or somewhere else rents jockey boxes or hand pumps?

This is what I was thinking for the Stevens Canyon mtn route:

    Up Canyon
    Up Indian Creek
    Down Bella Vista
Up Canyon to the new White Oak
Then down canyon back to the BBQ!

You have the option of doing the initial 2K climb on dirt or pavement. From there, there's going to be several options and I suspect small groups may head off to various adventures, depending upon energy levels vs. beer gravity.

I'm not a singlespeeder, but I'm guessing the sustained climb's going to suck on both the road and dirt depending upon your gearing. I have an extra hardtail (with gears) ready to go, if you want to use it (just let me know - I'll check the thread in the morning, and bring your pedals)

Damn it - I can't get out until 2pm, and I GOTTA do a ride. I think I'm going to have to stop by and drink a MTBR victory beer, eat some of Jeff or Marco's deserts (I'm guessing it'll all be gone though, so maybe just a second beer), then go climb the canyon...

No riding for me, just hanging out eating food (and sharing the home made chocolate chip cookies I made!!! ) and drinking all the beer. If I am lucky I can find a ride back home with someone who lives in the San Jose area, since my wife and boys need to leave a bit early (oldest son has swimming lessons @ 3:30PM, which seriously cuts into my Sunday alcoholism).

Be ready to ride by 9am. We will have rider orientation then.

    There will be three rides.

1)FC - Montebello - Bella Vista -White Oak - Canyon Trail
This ride will go up the 6 mile asphalt climb and take a break at the rocks at the top. We will then find the new White Oak Trail and go down Canyon trail

2)Mboldt - Stevens Canyon Road - Canyon Trail - Indian - Bella Vista - White Oak
This goes up 4 miles of Stevens Canyon Road to get to Canyon trail. It will not hit the vista peak but it will go down Bella Vista to White Oak

    3) Gregg - Slower pace Montebello - Bella Vista - Canyon Trail
This skips White Oak and just goes up the big Montebello climb then down Canyon and back to the beer

Roadies can do whatever they want. Climbers can add a climb up Charcoal Road to Gap on any of these rides.

Was a nice time, drank all your beer, ate all your food, came home with a bunch of your food. Thanks for all the beer and food! Dunno why I came home with so many leftover home-made chocolate chip cookies, more for us, I suppose. I had hoped to come home with an empty container.

Thanks everyone for pulling together for such a fun time! I had fun spewing drunk drivel to you all! Thanks for a listening ear!

Some pix of B group's ride through the creek. Had a great time, when's the next one?

JeffH tries riding the drop on the high line with one hand while filming. And tests out the waterproofness of his shoes. The important thing is...the camera stayed dry.

    JeffH rides through.

JustJeff not too far behind. Smiling makes riding easier!

    Good Times

    Wow, that was fun!

Rode the B ride through places I've never been. Grinding up the asphalt I spotted Jeffh and Ryan G. Say, isn't that a dirt trail they're on? It was, and the fun began. We found the fast and flowing singletrack and it was good.

We found the A riders already had the keg of Devil's Canyon Full Boar Scotch Ale tapped. There was way too much food so a strategy was in order; must have some key lime pie! The quest for pie was rewarded followed by a most awesome polled pork sandwich and some more beer. I repeatedly attacked the desert table.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better the whipped cream shots began. You saw the pictures, it was hilarious! That much fun should require some kind of a license.

Food contributions by the crew: priceless.
