The mountain lions of Santa Cruz - presentation

If you fear them every time you ride your bike or hear of a 'sighting'The mountain lions of Santa Cruz - presentation-46440651_10156903986697427_848131491203383296_n.jpg, it's time to get educated:
    ----

    Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 7 PM – 10 PM

Santa Cruz Bicycles, 2841 Mission St, Santa Cruz, California 95060

Join Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) and Santa Cruz Bicycles for a presentation by Chris Wilmers of the Santa Cruz Puma Project, "The Mountain Lions of the Santa Cruz Mountains". This presentation will tell the story of the journey of the mountain lions living in Santa Cruz over the last ten years. Though encounters between mountain bikers and mountains lions are rare, their paths cross more than you might think...

It's not a free MBOSC community event without beer, tacos, and a raffle! New Bohemia Brewing Co will be pouring beer and Tacos El Chuy will be serving up everyone's favorite local tacos. Santa Cruz Bicycles will be raffling off one of their famous Reserve Carbon wheelsets, Santa Cruz schwag, and a host of other rad prizes! Don’t worry, MBOSC will throw in some schwag, too!

    See you there!

I'm planning on it. Over all the years riding around here I have only seen 2 big cats. I have looked around their site and it looks like they are all over. Interested to hear about how many times they have seen me and I had no clue. I'm really looking forward to this presentation.

If you want to see some amazing footy of local lions from trailcams follow @Bergundwald on IG. The big cats haven't been by in a minute but it's always a good feed. She has many amazing videos of our cats, some with horrible tracking collars some without - whole families. They often come right up to the cameras and breathe and stuff - awesome! She does talks at Coastanoa from time to time. She does NOT want ppl asking her questions about where her land is, obviously, to protect the cats from the douchebag #huntersofinstagram who drool over shooting them in the comments from time to time....I hate some ppl.

I suppose showing up wearing one of these would be a bad idea.

bottom line: we're not going to get eaten.
the last question of the Q&A was, basically, how scared should we be?
He said that, statistically speaking, you're more likely to die from impaling yourself with your toothbrush. So everyone can make their own assessment of risk.

That's what they said about the little white bunny and look what happened to them!

Mountain bikers should most fear advocacy groups that want to take their trails away.
