Run away, mountain lion, run far away!

We can't have you trying to eat, now can we?

I'll never forget the first time I did a loop out from Quarry Trail up towards the auburn lake trails.

I was tired so I sat down on that memorial bench and took a breather. Heard some rustling in the tall grass while reading what the memorial bench was there for.

Imagine hearing rustling, being alone on remote(ish) trails, and reading that a lady was mauled to death by a mountain lion and this was her memorial bench.

Freaked me out! I haven't been out that way in awhile, but it's always a thrill.

There are hundreds of mountain lion in the area and they kill and eat deer every few days. Sounds like mistaken identity here as it sounds like the pony was probably around the size of a deer.

I'm sure mountain bikers will get blamed for this by the equestrian crowd

Yeah Mountain lions only pick and choose what meat to eat, lol. Food is food. They are opportunists. No mistaken identity, that's like saying wolves that eat all the sheep or cattle mistook them for deer because of their size.

Or a shark is afraid of humans... so when they attack they were confused.

Don't think so guys. Meat is meat to predators

Human error. The pony should not have been left out overnight...

State issued a depredation permit on that cougar. Hired hunter lied in wait for the cougar to return to the carcass, but a bear came by instead and dragged the rest of the pony away.

+1 for nature's beasts teaming up to foil the cavemen.
