    MBTB8 - Pogonip/Wilder - Tue, May 23, 10am

The starting point is fairly accurately linked on the map on the main page:

    http://webpages.cwia.com/emartini/mbtb8.html

Please chime in here if you have a route suggestion, or you want to be a ride leader. Even more important would be suggestions for where to eat after the ride.

I'm out for this one. I'll be recovering between the Niscene/Demo ride and the Big Basin ride.

I want to lead a A ride. 25 miles, 4 hours, all singletrack. All downhill! With nekkid virgins by the trail.

The last three out of four days (Lompico to Downtown S.J., Backside of Kennedy and Demo) my back is suggesting I choose between UCSC or Basin. I may choose Basin. Or I may choose ibuprofen and both. It's nice to have a choice though.

You and I and vitamin I will have some good times. I'm going to work on Tuesday to recover. Start doing toe-touches every morning and night now and your back will thank you later.

Count me in. I will be joined by my friend, Robert. Ready to use up all we have left after the Demo Forest ride the day before. Not sure I'll be ready fro an A level ride, however, We'll see. I think Ill still have enough left for 25 miles of singletrack, but probably not at all that fast of a pace.

For where to eat after the ride, I suggest Tampico's Kitchen on Pacific Ave near Birch Ln. Great Mexican food, reasonable price, full bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a taqueria in Felton, plus a full on sit down Mexican restaurant, Don Quixote's.

Not knockin Tampico's kitchen, but if you park on 9 and are headed back over the hill...

Don't forget the Cowboy Bar and Grill on Hiway 9 in Felton.

They have great burgers, steaks, salads and Newcastle on tap

Lots of great choices. I used to love Tampico's Grande when they were in Felton. If the Kitchen is as good... yum. It's in a crummy section of town, but not too bad.

Any interest in a B group ride at 9am?

I could put together a gently paced B/C grade ride, say ~15 mi, 2-1/2 hours. Mostly singletrack with some technical stuff. I know the area, I'm just not very fast.

Real world realities dictate that I'd have to start earlier than 10. Sigh.

    Cheers, Rob

Meeting time is 10am. Meeting place is the dirt parking lot on Highway 9.

    From SJ:
    17 South
    Highway 1 North.
First light is Highway 9, right turn.
Go up 3 miles to the big dirt lot on the right side (pictured).

That big lot is called Rincon on the park map. There are some smaller turnouts both before and after that where it is also safe to park. You can also get there on 9 coming down from Felton. Coming from San Jose, exit 17 at Mt. Hermon in Scotts Valley, take that through town to its end at Graham Hill Rd in Felton. Turn right, then left on 9, and go south. New Leaf in Felton has a nice assortment of micro-brews and tasty items.

I will be there. I rode there today with nativeson and it was very, very, very, very muddy. It surprised me with how much water was up there. Had to hose myself and the bike off before entering my house. We got some rain up here and it is raining again...

The dreaded worst of all four letter words, WORK, has eliminated Me and Robert from the ride tomorrow. I'm shooting for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on rides a little closer to home. Have fun. Save a few virgins for the weekend in the North Bay!

Btw, For food and brew afterwards, we'll take a poll and where to eat. We can eat at:
Tampico's - great mex near the ocean
Cowboy Grill - great greasy food and Newcastle on tap in Felton

Get ready for a long, fun day. Bring lots of trail food and bring clear or yellow sunglasses and poison oak blocker/cleaners.

Ok, this is a gathering ride. Lots of boys and girls came out to play. Since this is a public forum, we made sure that 98.5% of the ride was on legal trails. I think we got lost for a minute and had to backtrack on that 1.5%.

A great time was had by all we went on the Woo-Hoo ride. WOO-HOO is what we heard all day. Still don't know what that means.

Rensho wins the award for most interesting bike vehicle.

    So much fun.

    Weather and trails were prime.

You guys were great to ride with!

Francis is one fast mofo. He hammerd a stretch of trail and it was all I could do to keep up...and he only had one gear.

And so it begins. Here's Rumpfy kicking up some pine needles.

Here's Victor happy with his new investment

    Biopace Bob. Woo-Hoo.

    Little tail slide

    Velo Belah representin

    Smiling is illegal here John

Kathy is too fast for the camera

    Dwight says Waa-Haa

    Kathy

J is focused on the task at hand

    Are those roadie gloves?

    Rumpfy and his nice jersey

Eye on the prize for the climbing contest

Focusssssss. This is the climbing contest winner. Free socks!!

The group stayed together today and rode like one big happy family. But a few fast guys got to the top of the mountain and did an intense 15 minute loop! Wooooh-Hoooooh.

When do we get to Wilder asked Crazycatlady.

'I used to be a woman' Rumpfy finally confessed in a Wee-Hee moment.

I won't caption these photos. Many, many folks hung out to enjoy Newcastle on tap and to get to know each other. That's what a gathering is about!

    Free Woolie socks to:
    Longest Commute - Kathy
Best Crash - John - oh man, what a bruiser!!
Best Crash - Bob - best tick too
B-Ride leader on the downhill - Dwight
    2 more??

And a free WTB Weirwolf 2.55 LT tire to the person that needed it most as judged by Rensho - Bob's buddy from Modesto!!

    What a great day

Thanks to fc and John for leading a fanfabulous ride. That option off 'sweet....' will stick in my head for a little while.
Good group today too, everyone kept a good pace. We did accomplish losing J towards the end of the ride, so that was good.
I don't know how fc and John did it, but we manage to ride today staying only on legal trails.

Francquis is sooo fast because he levitates his bike.
I on the other hand will need a new FS rig just to keep going, let alone catsup.
    heheheheh.

Thanks for the memories and fun
