I'll be there. I'm happy to lead the slow group (if there is a slow group).

If everything goes according to plan (yeah, right), my new Motolite will arrive the day before.

It's actually a bit selfish. This way I'm just instigating 11 rides and letting y'all do the coordinating.

    I'll be there

I'll be there and I was thinking of doing the usual 25 mile slowpoke ride, which half the people here seem to have done with me. If that isn't enough we can add the extra eight miles I've been doing lately.

Of course. I know plenty of short cuts for the various loops, so you end up doing a few less miles, but it's easy to catch up with everyone.

    Annadel slowpokes step-up!

Come on Annadel slowpokes, this is our chance to show people our ride. The doctor said to get some blood flowing to my brain without hitting my head. So I did a few hours at New Melones yesterday. I'm still alive so I'm definitely in for the Annadel ride. I'm bringing the helmet cam and I'd like to get something besides the usual cliché of bombing down Lawndale. Perhaps some Rough Go (without head hits), Live Oak and other rockier parts, even though they barely show with the wide angle lens. Perhaps I won't be the slowest for a change. But I don't care how slow we climb as long as we move on the downhills.

I did the Boundry trail again yesterday, including the lower "hard" part that we skipped last time. It would make for good camera footage.

    Car pool from Marin?

Hey, I'm looking forward to this ride! If anyone else is driving from Marin or passing through San Rafael and wants to car pool get in touch (my rodeo has conspired to keep me from riding outside of Marin on my last two trips.) Gas and post ride beers on me of course.

    thanks!

I think you are getting too fast and skilled to be a slowpoke. But will you show us the correct line down the Boundary Trail, the one without the head banger? We'll see how brave I feel after my last experience following you.

I'm sorry I've missed out on all the rides so far. Got busy this weekend.

I did manage a quickie long loop around the frontside of China Camp on the SS today. I even did the Nike Site paved road climb. That hurt.

Think this is the only MBTB ride I can make, glad it is at Annadel.

I got room for 2 (1 if friend comes along)other people and their bikes (cramped but works). Coming from San Francisco and passing through Marin.

Hey, I was up at the nike site at about noon but didn't see any single speeders. What's your gear ratio? If you did it without stopping you're my hero - I did it at 1:1 and was still fighting that little voice that kept telling me "Just stop for a second, what's the point?"

... and I cleaned it... but it hurt... really hurt. I have not taken the SS out for anything more than getting groceries at the corner store. It's been a while since I did any real SS climbing.

I got there around 8:15 and got back to the car at 9:45, so no, you prolly didn''t see me.

Did you notice they buffed out my favorite techy climb? I think it was Back Ranch, where there is this chute that goes over some roots. It was downright comfortable to shoot down on the rigid SS, and that is just plain wrong. My rigid SS bike should be an exercise in pain control. That used to be a really tough techy rocky climb. I'm bummed.

You're talking about the single track just after crossing back ranch fr when going cw, right? Yeah, that happened at the same time the bridge was completed so I'm guessing it was MBC that cleaned that up. That was the one section of the front side that could get you if going uphill and you weren't paying attention on an off day.

    1st timers bring a map

First timers bring a map since someone invariably bails, and despite good verbal directions, they get lost. Many places to bail. Map on my site.

    I'll Be There

I'm in for the B group on Saturday at Annadel. Annadel is my home turf and I usually ride there at least once a week. I'd volunteer to lead a group, but I'm thinking I might cut out a little earlier than the normal 25 miles in order to save a little bit for the next day at Boggs. I plan on leaving directly after food in Santa Rosa for the drive up to the boondocks of Lake County and backwoods of Cobb Mountain. I'll have my camp stuff loaded up but may stop at the store on the way for any last minute food, drinks, or whatever.

Tim (UncleMTB), I think I read in some post that there is good source of water somewhere near the entrance to the campground or entrance to Boggs? Is that correct? Otherwise, I might need to stop and buy some bottled water for camping as well.

I will be joined in both Annadel and Boggs by my friend Robert and his 16 year old son, Ross, both of whom are excellent, enthusiastic riders but not members of MTBR.

    See y'all Saturday! Chris

I read that too, but I don't know where it is exactly. There's a store about 5 minutes down the road in any case. It's fairly civilized around there.

I was told last fall that the water at the spigot near the cdf station is non-potable. I thought about taking my chances, but decided to drive to the general store in town (like phast eddy said, literally 5 minutes) and bought a couple gallons of water there.

The water at the Boggs entrance is Cobb municipal water. The spigot is next to the big white fuel tank at the entrance parking lot...
It is mountain spring water that has been treated with chlorine so it is concidered potable.
I'm not much on chlorine but I have a friend who is a Biology professor who tells me I'm overreacting...my usual mode...
Anyway there are stores in Middletown 8 miles before Boggs and one in Cobb 1 mile out.

I'll be sweeping the C ride as my shoulder is working but not fully healed so I'll be slower than normal...
    See you at Channel drive...

Hey, so I locked out the fork and did it in 32:23 last night and it was not too bad. I don't have an 18 tooth cog on my cassette, but I'm encouraged to try 32:20 or 32:17 next time. Thanks for the inspiration! BTW, there was an article in the MCBC Pedal Press about climbing. They said that "if you tend to ride in a low cadence while climbing (<70 rpm), increasing your cadence to a range of 70 - 90 rpm can ultimately reduce fatigue..." Wonder what they would have thought of my approx. 15 cadence :-)

    Oakmont??

Just looking over your route. Better not go by Santa Rosa and start heading toward Sonoma on Highway 12 or you will certainly miss us! Oakmont to White Oak Drive? You'll be on the border to Annadel, but not where we're meeting. Try Farmers Lane, turn right onto Montgomery Drive, past Mission to a right onto Channel Drive and the signs for the park entrance for Annadel State Park and Spring Lake Regional Park. Good Luck. See ya tomorrow.(look at Wherewolf's Google Earth map posted above)

That map looks a little goofy. Just turn right on Montgomery from Farmers Lane. It's the light before 4th st. ie.. Hwy. 12. That goes straight over to Channel past Mission, Actually, either way will work!

    My first time to Annadel

I had never gone to Annadel before, hadn't planned on it but with the boredom of
sitting in a gray cube on Friday, some prompting from Plim, and rensho's posting
of driving directions, I decided to go.

What a fun, chaotic, out-of-control day!!! I don't know where we went, how many
were there, who was there, I lost track of the time of day...people got flats,
wrenches were turned, riders crashed, my chain was skipping all day (dang it)...
groups split-off, groups came together...everyone - I think - ended up back at the
parking lot and then most went for Mexican food (yum!).

Today I find some digital documentation of yesterday: my bike computer says I
rode 28.25 miles in 3:20, climbed 2,936', and went over 1,438,958,172 rocks.

It is so nice to get to these rides and just have a blast with folks. The weather was just perfect yesterday and a nice, mellow, fun ride was had. It would have been great to see more of the B group, but, who's complaining.

Thanks to Bill? for giving me some water when my full waterbottle decided it didn't like me anymore and ejected itself on rock # 56,894. Then, in a complete Hari Kiri, it opened the top and spilled all the contents on to the singletrack. Nice.

Some random pix, and some not so random pix.

    Our motley crew
    1 smiling Ogre
Plim hunting me down and moving in for the kill
There was concern throughout the ride for safety and safety stops.

    A couple more pix.

Had a great time. First time to Annadel, it was on my short list of places to get to this year and I think I'll be back a couple more times after Saturday.

    1) Trailseeker grunting it out
    2) Baycat and Rage against the Machine guy
    3) Wherewolf and GuruAtma
    4) Unknown ? and RATM guy again

A great day. Thanks for a fun ride. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a burrito more than after that long ride.

Yes, thanks for the leading the ride. Great to meet you!! A shout out goes to all the cool new folks I met.

I've recovered from my rigid fork beating. But... I still have gas from the 6 energy bars and burrrrito that I ate! Sorry carpool mates .

Oh you Skeggs homers better appreciate the photos I took. I got so much oak on mah legs for going off trail.
