MBOSCers,It’s been a stellar (and wet) dig season here in Santa Cruz, and we couldn’t have pulled it off without our amazing volunteers, partners, sponsors, and supporters! All of us at Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) are stoked to invite you to our first annual Volunteer Appreciation Campout, Camp Dig It!
Join all of us at MBOSC for a fun-filled weekend of bikes, tunes, and beer at Camp Loma, next to Soquel Demonstration State Forest. We want to say thank you to the people who have helped us make 2019 one of the best dig seasons that we’ve ever had. We have worked hard, and now it’s time to party!

We'll kick off the weekend on Friday, May 31, with food, drinks, and games, followed by riding and a big barbecue celebration on Saturday, June 1. We'll pack it out on Sunday after a catered breakfast. You're welcome to join for all or any part of it.
See you this week!

MOUNTAIN BIKE TO WORK DAY WAS A HIT
Each year Ecology Action puts on Bike to Work Day in Santa Cruz County as a part of Bike Month, a nationwide celebration of sustainable transportation. On Bike to Work Day, businesses and organizations sponsor “breakfast sites” where cyclists can stop and enjoy a free breakfast for riding their bike. This year MBOSC wanted to get involved, so we decided to host our first ever Mountain Bike to Work Day breakfast site! We are very thankful the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department permitted us to host our breakfast site at the Emma McCrary Trailhead. We served hot french toast with all the fixin’s, chicken apple sausage, hard boiled eggs, beautiful fruit salad platters, piping hot coffee, orange juice, and more. Almost sixty mountain bikers and dirt commuters stopped by for their breakfast fix! What a great way to celebrate active transportation!
NOTES FROM THE NATURAL HISTORY OF TRAILS LECTURE
On Thursday, May 9, MBOSC hosted a Natural History of Trails lecture at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History as a part of their Naturalist Night series. Our lecture featured three speakers; Ben Blom, Field Manager for the Bureau of Land Management, Noah Finnegan, Geomorphologist at UCSC, and Alex Krohn Assistant Manager at the UCSC Natural Reserve. We learned so much from all three speakers and we can’t wait to host a similar event again. This is the first of many lectures we hope to host to help our community understand their natural surroundings, the impacts we have as mountain bikers, and what we can do to be better trail stewards. Thanks to all of our speakers, MBOSC staff, and Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History staff for making it possible.
