MBOSC: Demo Dig Day Jan 6, 2019

    DIG DAYS – JAN 6, 2019

For this Dig Day, we’ll be working on the Flow Trail in Soquel Demonstration State Forest. Thanks to Mike’s Bikes for supporting this Dig Day as our hospitality sponsor! We will be sprucing up the trail in preparation for the rainy season ahead. This is an ideal Dig Day to bring your bike to as there will be ample riding opportunities.
Note that the date has changed to Sunday due to heavy rains predicted on Saturday. We’ll keep an eye on the weather, and if the storm continues into Sunday, we may need to cancel. We’ll make the call on Friday and confirm with everybody who has signed-up. If you’ve already signed-up and can’t make it due to the date change, please email emma@mbosc.org. If you’ve already signed-up and still plan to be there, you’re all set, no need to do anything! If you haven’t signed-up and would like to join us, click the link below to claim your spot.

I love segments 5 and 6, even though you can't ride them chainless. Thank you!

Great day for cleaning drains! Thanks to everyone who came out and braved the rain. Extra special gratitude to those who brought an ez-up or heat source. Nice to see so many hard as nails volunteers stick it out for the day!

HOLY SHIT. 4 inches of rain at Demo today.

Pretty cool to work on drains and see them work right away. Definitely was a good day to see how good your rain gear was...in which mine wasn't.

Right on. How many staff and how many volunteers showed up? Must have been hard to last the whole duration.

It was coming down! And we generally don't have the clothing for that deluge.

I'd say there were 30-40 hardy souls there. Small crew for a normal dig day, but pretty impressive all things considered. There was a mix of fully rain-gear clad (jackets and pants) folks, a lot of jackets only, and a few trash bag ponchos.

I feared the wind would become a problem, but it really wasn't.

43 total showed up. Rain made it pretty obvious where it drains and where it does not

    Very, very nice.

This would be good to do in a lot of trail networks around here. Santa Teresa, Fremont Older, there's trails where water runs down the ENTIRE trail almost top to bottom, putting a deep gouge in it and making it almost unusable for the season.

Yeah, but only if done properly - they did "fix" drainage on Stiles a year ago or so - by just digging foot wide and half-shovel deep drain trenches across the trail :|
You can imagine how well that works for bicycles.

Almost all trail drains are too small. People are afraid to ‘hurt’ the trail. Those drains above are very nice.
