MBTB8 - Big Basin & Butano SPs - Wed, May 24, 10am
The starting point is at Big Basin HQ. The ride is a bit less than 40 miles with some decent climbing, but not too much. Plan to be out on the trail for 8 hours. The vast majority is on fire roads, but don't let that distract you. The views and the epicness of the parks are well worth it. I might be able to find a little trail somewhere along the way too. There's a gas station/store at the halfway point at Gazos Creek Beach that has a decent selection of stuff you can cook in their microwave.
There's an opportunity for a 'C' group, but you'd better be good with a map or a gps. It would still be around 30 miles, but would not drop down to the beach. I don't know if you'd want to wait for the main group to return either.

Let's plan to bring afterfood in coolers and leave it in the car. There's no place to eat around, and it will be late when we get back. Bonus points for anyone who brings pre-cooked fajitas and a camp stove. 8^)
This is a truly great ride. I'm looking forward to doing it for the fourth time.

MBTB8 - Rockville Hills Community Park - Fri, May 26, 12:30pm
Rockville is the classic, traditional Friday afternoon ride. If you can't ride all week, take a half-day off Friday and start the weekend right. Traffic to Rockville can be a beotch, so we'll ride early.

I'm probably out for this one. We'll see.
WG is your fearless leader. If anyone wants to volunteer as an additional ride leader, speak up.
Food afterwards can be decided on the spot. There's good Mexican nearby.
If you're riding Rockville and Annadel, and you want to camp over in Santa Rosa, speak up, and I'll arrange something. As of now I have made no camping arrangements in Santa Rosa for Friday night.

Lets make it a little earlier to avoid more of the traffic. 680/80 outta the bay area will be nasty by 2.
How about a 12:30 start time?
Roll call for everyone who plans on being there!
-
12:30 vote for me. I am in!

I'm going to try to be there. I say we skip the beer in the lot and the mexican and go straight to the bar at the end of the street there for grub & brew.

Ahh, The Rockville Inn. If it's the same owner from about 7 years ago, there was no Ties allowed on Fridays back then. If you walked in with a Tie on you would catch a lot of flack. Funny moments....

I think I may sacrifice the UCSC ride for this one. I haven't ridden a group Basin ride since 1996. We used to have the best rides there. I'm putting it on my calendar.

I went to a place in Dallas with a "no ties" rule. If you came in with one they cut it off with some shears and tacked it up on the wall.

Duh, PBR.
But if Guy Lombardo likes it, maybe Shaeffer would be ok too.

I'll probably join you on this ride.
I haven't really ridden much at Big Basin and I wan't to get more familiar with this park.

I'm planning to come back for a little "hair of the dog." Score is Rockville 1, Kathy 1. Need a tie-breaker (and hopefully nothing else!).

I have time to take off and therefore will be actually making some of these rides.
-
anyone else coming from the soutbay? Carpool?
-
I'll see those of you who make it to the "Boggs Turn Off" aka State Fire station, Forestry road, Cobb, Ca.
I'm currently doing hydro therapy and massage to fix my shoulder...I used it for landing gear last Saturday at Boggs...had a great time, just over used my body some.
I will set up the camp at Boggs Thurs. so come on up.
It is about an 1.5 hrs to Rockville and 1 hr Annadell.
A shuttle to Annadell in the Glomar is planned just let me know who needs a spot.

I might join you on Friday night after Rockville. Depends on whether or not I can do a load of laundry in Santa Cruz after Big Basin or Skeggs. Otherwise it's the Motel 6 in Santa Rosa. How many bikes can you fit in the Glomar? Couple dozen? ;^P

I'm up for that, but I can't really fit two bikes in my car very well. Can you? You're talking about the Wed Big Basin ride, yes?

I've got the day off so I'm committed to this ride.
I can carpool from Santa Cruz. I can can carry a maximum of 4 bikes and 4 people in my Subaru Outback.
Reply with the mtbr.com email if you're interested in car pooling from Santa Cruz. I'll probably leave Westside SC at 9 am.
Thanks Fast Eddy for organizing this ride. I'm really looking forward to it!

It would be great if you could email Lucky, and work out a ride schedule with her. She's from NY, and not familiar with the tricky route to get up there. I may join you since rensho was talking about Rockville. It's about the same time for me to go via Watsonville or Los Gatos, but the traffic sux getting to LG in the am.

The Rockville thread is now merged into this thread.
Just an experiment on how to consolidate these threads. It ain't working too well though.

Sorry. Frank is trying to get back at me for the 11 threads I created. How do I add smileys?
I edited the main page to point at the rockville part of this thread, so it's a little more intuitive.

So it looks like I will have to show up to this ride to show all you tourists around.

Perfect. And while you're at it, could you brighten up the weather report for this weekend. Us "fireroad" riding "tourists" don't like to ride in the rain with all that mud and slippery stuff. And since you're the host, I assume you will have an adequate supply of beer for your guests. Cheers.
-
They don't call it "ROCK"ville for the Fireroads
Actually, You guys should be buying me beer for showing you all the sweet trails. However, if you can beat me down something, I would gladly reward you with a beer at the Rockville Inn.
P.S. the Rockville ride isn't until next Friday, right?

Right. Rockville MBTB is Friday, May 26th at 12:30pm. I'll try to gather all the local crowd to come. See you all there.
Thanks Eddy. That is you real name right?

Not only is it my opinion that this will be the best ride but it now looks like it will be the best weather as well.

So it's been brought to my attention, by a friend of mine that this post may have pissed some people off or appeared that I was bragging. I assure you that was not my intention. I was merely trying to stir up a little added interest for this ride. I make no claim as to being the fastest guy out there. I just ride a lot. I hope that no one was offended by my comment and will take it as a challenge and come out and smoke me.

Beers from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing
I have a special treat for people riding the Big Basin ride. I got a bunch of organic beers from Santa Cruz mountain brewing company. http://www.santacruzmountainbrewing.com.
These beers are really tasty. A couple freinds came over Saturday night. One guy is moving to Boston so California micro brews were the theme. We started the evening off with SCMB beers then headed to 99 Bottles for other micros like Humboldt Hemp and Speakeasy "Double Daddy" among others. The DD had 9.5% alcohol and did me in for the evening.
I was a little wobbly for a ride at Nisene on Sunday. The rain was pretty intense so we turned back at the slide.

You found it. Its buried in all the other stuff in here.
Do you wanna carfool? I can toss a bike in the back. One of the racks lost its rear tire strap last week. What a PITA.
You'd be in the beer wagon....

I think it's probably my turn to drive. I've got bike racks a'plenty. Plus, I've got some beer to bring and share if that's what we're doing...perhaps we should grill some lunch / dinner as well? I've got sausages and dogs but no buns yet...
Any other carfool takers?

I'm liking the idea of a post ride grill thing. That could be good. Or drink some, hang out, BS some, then head over to the Rockville Inn and drinks some, hang out, BS and eat.

I like your plan. What time do you want to meet? at my house or yours?

If you're drivin' I'll swing by you around 11:30 or so? 680 northbound on Fridays can be a mystery/misery. I'll hit Bev Mo for, umm, supplies. Maybe refill the flask too.
