Weekend traffic has taken its toll on EMT and U-Conn. Traction was very sketchy on some parts of the upper section of U-Conn. They should be good by the end of the week.

Leaving work shortly, but I'll probably still stick with road rides as I'm sure all the trails need time to dry. The rain was on and off up here in the mountains over the weekend, but everything is so saturated, that it's going to take time.

I am half tempted to drive over the hill and take a spin up Nisene, but I'll bet it's wet as shit down at the bottom.

John Nicholas trail is quite soft in some spots. A large tree recently fell down across the trail, and there's already an improvised path around it. The tree is quite tall, and the trunk is 2-3 feet in diameter I believe. There's lots of poison oak at the top.

Just heard the very very sad news that Olympic cycling medalist Kelly Catlin died at Stanford. She was also a cyclocross and mountain biker. Only 23 years old. Tragic.

Some heavy mud holes left from the weekends rain but spring is in the air at Fremont Older.

Fort Ord was good but drying out fast, still a few puddles here and there but for the most part its a beach. Crowded out there too. Saw the Ranger and security watching over the munitions clean.

Was at St. Joes yesterday. Soil is good there but man, there is water running everywhere. Never seen it like this. Water flow all over and where it can't exit the trail quickly, there are mud puddles.

Can definitely learn about flow and fix and let that water exit quickly these days, here and everywhere.

On my road loop yesterday, I was descending Black road and there are corners where water is free flowing across the whole road a couple inches deep. The mountains are saturated and I expect there will be flowing water from the ground for a couple months, still.

Pacifica / Montara is pretty saturated - I was mostly on gravel fire roads and sandy stuff today but was still pretty muddy afterward - unfortunately nobody has gotten around to clearing the stairs out of this trail yet

Oh - and that red hill on the right side of the photo is a big-a$$ ant hill

Jibmaster, nice! That trail is all time! Only done it once, need to get up there again. Joaquin Miller Park, in Oakland is still super saturated. Mud bogs in all the normal places, mostly the fire roads we use in bottom of meadow. Only a few muddy spots on singletrack. Alot of the singletrack is almost dry. There was enough mud around Tuesday night, that we skipped middle Palos down to bridge (both side of creek are usually soaked an extra day or 2). JMP is pretty good everywhere else. Oh, there was an unusual 4 inch wide, 1 inch deep mini river flowing down the top of Cinderella, but you easily avoid it. I have never seen that before. By the time you read this, I bet JMP is really good! Except those fire roads around meadow.

EMT is great. Lots of drainage work going on there. Upper U-Conn is still sloppy. There has been improvement with the last two sunny days and some wind yesterday. All should be good by Friday.

Did a 16 mile mix of JMP and Redwood goodies today. Cindy and chap are all time, get out there and set a pr. Stuff off East ridge down to Pinehurst is pretty leafy and slick with tons of fallen branches. Did a little maintenance today.

Stay away from March-May, that is the worst time to ride SC. Conditions usually suck and rangers hiding behind homeless camps giving out tickets.

No photos but Pioneer and Hoot in Nevada City are basically unridable with quite a bit of snow and runoff.

Fort Ord is getting a lot of use lately, the sunny weather and longer days. Just be cautious out there and ride with a bell. Came across guys riding up 50 and 82 yesterday evening. People are everywhere. Looking forward to the end of April when the Sea Otter Circus has come and gone and people forget about Fort Ord.

Thanks JC for the report. I had planned on riding Nevada City in the next couple of days, but now it doesn't look feasible. Looks like I need to break out the road bike.

My pleasure although it looks like we have sunshine through the week so it may dry up a bit by then. If you want to remind me to check conditions on Friday I can ask my peeps in the know like Redhawk.

*edit* I just heard Scott's Flat is riding very well. Hoot will still have snow in locations this weekend due to the shady nature (north facing slope) of the trail.

Monday's are definitely quiet out there, I feel like Fridays are as well. Sunday and Wednesday seems to be to busy days, but like I said, after the Sea Ottter Circus its usually pretty deserted.
