Send a message to "Berkeley Mike" if he doesn't show up in this thread. He's the coach of a high school mountain bike team in El Cerrito and would be a good source for finding other riders your age... but if you don't mind hanging with older dudes (and dudettes), show up to one of the rides advertised in the forum...

There's a skeggs ride tomorrow... plenty of singletrack and climbing... one of the better rides in the area. Note, though, that my guess is that this ride is for intermediate to advanced riders (in terms of skills and fitness). But there are often group rides for all abilities posted in the forum as well.

there are tons of us east bay riders....where are you located--tons of trails, from briones to tilden/wildcat, redwood/jacquin miller, etc....

as for easier trails in the east bay, i'd try sierra/bayview in jacquin miller, china camp in marin (was there with my son today), chabot and maybe briones (lots of big climbs but it's all fireroad so is not technically difficult--more a test of strength/stamina).

just stay tuned right here as there are tons of group rides, lots of which have a 'b' or 'c' groups that don't hammer the entire ride. also the bicycle trails council of the east bay has a bunch of organized group rides, including some beginner rides (mostly chabot i think) and they post here...they should get going soon.

    welcome!!

i'm in san pablo and i cycle in wildcat and tilden at least once a week. Thinking of a change for scenery though, haha... Was wondering if anyone could give me and a friend directions to some trails in Oakland which is commutable? Or better yet, would someone care to show us there?
