    No mountain biking this weekend. Instead we're going backpacking West of Bishop. Starting at Pine Creek Trailhead we'er going to head up to Italy Pass, climbing Mt Julius Caesar, then turn south and go over Dancing Bear Pass into the Bear Lakes Area then over Feather Pass and make our way back to the trail head. We might climb another peak or two along the way if we have time and energy. Should be about 25 miles with about 10-11K ft climbing, not including any peaks we decide to do.
    I like to ride bikes.

    I got up bright and early, for a pre-work ride, and I just couldn't do it. It is so hot already. I think I'll try swimming this afternoon.

    You should camp at Sunset Beach, south of Capitola. Probably 40 degrees cooler.

    Donner fireworks and drinking. Floating the Truckee and (surreptitiously) drinking. Riding somewhere in the Donner-Truckee area.

    I should but have you ever tried to get a camp ground the day before the 4th? Anyhow, someone else set it up and we said surely. The Pinnacles are pretty cool and I hear the campground has a pool. yeha

    I was there a few weeks ago (Pinnacles). We didn't camp - stayed at Inn at Pinnacles - but the hiking was killer. Get up early though. We talked to a bunch of people that started hiking mid morning and had real trouble with the heat. The trail at the top with the ladders is super cool. You'll have fun.

    I did see some peeps riding road bikes around and wished I brought mine for some evening spins.

    The bad news: We had a trip to Donner Lake planned with some friends, but our cat just had surgery yesterday, and we also need to sign paperwork so that we can start house hunting...

    The good news: Some friends from Socal are coming up tonight, and we're going to ride Santa Cruz tomorrow. Yippee! And I'll probably watch a little Wimbledon action. And we get to go house hunting! Also, my g/f is building up her new Yelli Screamy (new bikes are groovy).

    BTCEB Is participating in the July 4th Parade in Pleasant hill for the 5th year in a row. We get a nice reception there. Afterwards we repair to Dan'ger's place for BBQ. Wife and I are in charge of margaritas; we just got back from Costco. Years of preparing teams for races have left me with a few skills anyhow.

    Oops! Limes!

    Stuck going to a barbecue at noon at a house of sloths. I expect the food to be lacking in quality and nutrition. I will be bringing beer though (many bottles of Drakeís Denogginizer) so perhaps this will make it worth it.

    Took my 15 month old for a cruiser bike ride already, about to hop in the boat for some wakeboarding. Headed to N* a little later. Then beers and brats on the deck. Happy 4th to everyone!

    ^^ Yuuup! We didn't start until 10, but the weather was comfy, had an MBOSC krew sighting on the way up, very few people on our route, and even had a fun uncrowded run down E. Mac at the finish. The 17 south was pretty much bumper to bumper all the way back to Los Gatos for those fools who got a late start!

    Home -> Emma -> uconn -> UCSC -> Wilder -> SCMTnB -> beaches -> home.

    Gardening, hang with the cats, drink some brews, mock snowjnky, more brews, hot tub and a book.

    Will hear plenty of the booms from the house.

    My morning ride got cut short. I was cresting a climb and a rider on an old school fully rigid bike bombed past me. I looked back at the top and he was yard saled on a turn. Clicked into EMT mode and whipped down to check him out, road rashed knees and forearms, bruised ribs, minor disorientation, busted thumb. We opted for the walk out vs the 911 call. It took about an hour to reach pavement where he could ride one handed over to my house. Loaded his bike on my rack and drove him home. BBQ tonight

    Annual 4th of July camping trip took us to New Bullards Bar Reservoir this time (my pick). It was really hot, and we tend to drink a load of beer so my riding was less than normal. Our campsite was next to the Schoolhouse downhill trail so each day, already heavily hydrated with Tecate's and my camelback loaded with them in case I got lost, I rode the 3 miles to the Dark Day area and our daily float in the lake. The lake is a really nice green color, very warm, and enriched with an amazing amount of iron pyrite. With the heat I didn't ride as much as planned, but the lake trail was awesome. Good food, lots of beer, good times. And my bike matches the lake!
