    Kennedy, Wed May3 ride report

Nice big group!! I think Larry's got pics so I'll start this new thread.

It was a good day to grind the big hill and drink some cervezas afterwards.

Pics are from my prototype 20 megapixel digital HD super SLR.

Francois - you were supposed to sneak out to the trailhead first to take some shots of dirt to make everyone think we actually rode!

Dang that Hill hurts!! Next week I'll give it a shot on my CX rig.

Good meeting new people...all of which are faster than me. I'm convinced Francois and Rumpfy are animals dressed up in people suits - I think they cleared the climb in 43 minutes w/out really trying too hard

CrashMaster snapped his chain...so on the way down the hill he was in "super duper stealth" mode - rolled up beside me and let out a loud "heckle" , scared the BEJESUS outta me!! I though he was an escaped Hyena for crying out loud...I'm buying him a bell

Beer and tacos after a ride like that is the BESTEST thing in the world.

    Look forward to next week

hehe, thanks for letting tag along on the decend guys. I had a great time. I will see about the carbo-loading (I heard somewhere that Beer is a good source of carbos) after the ride next time.

I had to run off early and make a 9 o'clock softball game in Sunnyvale, or I would have joined ya'll.

BTW, what's the story with the socks, I hear/see it..

The socks will be for sale on the site soon. But for now, we're giving socks away for admirable riding that goes beyond the call of duty.

    - singlespeeding up kennedy
    - clearing the final wall on kennedy
    - taking poison oak on the face
    - drinking a pitcher of post ride brew
    - etc, etc.

    glutten for punishment = massochist

BTW Sean, in reference to the other thread with the link to the video, hell I say most of those things on most of the rides I go on ;-)

Nice showing all around last night. I counted 13-14 people, most of which had smiles on their faces. I think 1/2 of those were claiming to be slow...

Cool beans for showing up K-Max, we know it is a major pain for ya to cut off work at that hr.

    Heard on the trail:
-I can't remember how many times I thought about turning around and going back to the car.
-Isn't that chain suppose to go on your crank, and not the handlebar?
-Whoah, you went way wide there!
-The group of 10 people just took off (before 6:30pm)
-The dim-sum i had for lunch is really coming back up
-That branch of poison oak smacked me in the face on the way down.
    -It's cold.
-If I don't ride up with folks, that's all i think about is turning around and going home.

I can attest to thinking that last thought many times.

I could EASILY SS up Kennedy. As long as I'm running a 22x34 combo. Would that count for a free pair of socks? If I didn't have commitments on wed evenings I'd be there.

I think this might be the first MTBR ride that started early.

I think seeing the mini driving up the hill made us all dash for the head start. It still didnt work

    Special Request

I would really like to do the Kennedy ride again with the group, but Wednesdays are really hard for me to get out in the evening. :17:

It would be great if we move the ride to either Tuesday or Thursday. You see, then I can move my other weekly night ride to either Thursday or Tuesday. Francis, I know that you were asking to join me, and I think that this is the best way. Unless, Master-of-Rides, you can teach me how to get a hall pass from the wife for two nights in a row :confused5:

Anyone else want to change the night? A buddy and I will be riding there tonight, btw.

    UB.

Too late Uncle. Can't change this ride now. It has too much momentum. Next week, we'll have 20 riders. Cross bike!!

On Tuesdays, I now have the mtbr.com Skeggs ride at 6pm. Thursday is the poacher-special ride.

Dang. You get three hall-passes on the weekdays? You are the Master.

It's what I figured, but I had to ask anyways.

    That was fun.

I think I'm in for Skeggs next Tuesday.

I'm in for Wednesday Kennedy next week for sure. I'm bringing the Scott, it's ligher.

Great to see such a fine turn out. I think we were all at the top within a few minutes of each other...which is pretty cool.

    Fun Climb

Yea, I got lots of pictures. I'll post when I get home tonight. Especially the ones of Andy being so fast he didn't even need a chain. I first thought that was the latest trend in bike minimalism, going from no gears to no chains.

Fun seeing everyone. I'll be there next week too. (But I'll have to sneak out ahead in disguise if I want to synchronize at the top.)

Thanks to all those who rode with me for a bit for encouragement while on the way to the top (Kyle, Thomas,...)

Thomas even rode back and did one of the steep hills again, just to keep me company. Thanks. (Although it felt like he was riding circles around me, because he was.)

Well thanks for waiting. I may have just not ridden otherwise, which woulda sucked because that's the only real way to erase the stress of a day in advertising. Hopefully, I can notch out a schedule for this on a regular basis.

Funny, in that one photo, looks like I'm getting kicked in the face. I don't remember that part of the evening...

    Fun ride and

what a ride, Rumpfy and the Ultralord reeled me in fast, I left early and those guys were smokin up the hill. sorry for the scare Chum, got a little excited or I was just spaced out by then, Thanks Big Larry for the lead home or I'd still be driving around in circles looking to get home. My legs are so sore from all the running I was doing down hill it was hard to move today.
It was a pleasure to meet some new faces from the board as well, Till next week more riders and it will be an official Mtbr gathering time to start a raffle.

    Pics Finally!!

OK, been real busy, but got the pics. Here's the gathering.

And then there's Francois showing up the nominal 6:45 time,... which was later than everyone else.
Turns out EVERYONE but Francois and Thomas decided they were slow and wanted to get an early head start. Plan was foiled by everyone having the same thought.

    Kennedy Climb

The first picture near the bottom is the last I saw of most people. But a few later stragglers came up behind. Some (like Thomas) even joined me for a bit.

The brief stops to take these pics and get a breather added mabye 3 minutes to my time. So I ended up climbing in 67 minutes instead of 64 minutes I showed moving. If I wasn't the only guy carrying a heavy camera around my neck on the climb up, I might have broken an hour!

    Top of Kennedy

Yep, I managed to be last up after all. But it wasn't too much of a wait for the others I don't think.

My camera was starting to fog up badly from the cold. So along with the darkness coming, a lot of the descent pictures didn't come out. (See Andy's run below for example.)

    Andy is crazy because:
    * He rides a SS up Kennedy
    * He rides with sandles, regardless of weather or ride.
    * He does 30 foot jumps with hard tail and sandles (at Demo last year)
    * He's Andy...

He seemed to be missing something else today.
    And it wasn't just socks.
    Lower pictures provide a hint.

    Re-Fuel

Of course after burning energy, we have to intake energy. Here's the preferred method: Burritos and Beer was my particular choice.

I probably restored over half the 1500 calories I burned going up the hill.

Francois borrowed my camera and got a group shot, and a sneak shot of Kyle.
