I rode Demo today: Cusacks, the fun part of Corral and Flow. Cussacks was in good shape with a handful of muddy patches. Corral trail was great. And Flow was 10 out of 10, the best I have ever seen it.

I want to go back Thursday morning if it doesnít rain Wednesday/Thursday.

The parking lot was open. When I arrived at around 11am, there were two other cars parked on Highland. On the way back to the car at 1:30pm, there was one truck in the lot and a handful of vehicles on Highland.

Anyone else ever ride anything this steep? Straight up, and straight down. The climb is 100% rideable for a strong climber. But after lap 2 I was walking up the pavement section it was so steep. Probably the quickest Iíve ever done 4kí though, so thatís cool.

Did the Skeggs perimeter ride today. Most of those trails can use some rain already. Pretty surprised. Legs are shot!
So Leaf was in great shape today. Some trees had been cut down and a few sections of trail had been worked on. So fun!
Blue Blossom was running the best Ive ridden it. Don't know what was different but man it was a blast - even after climbing up from Virginia Mill bridge. Ugh

Rode Demo this afternoon. Great conditions, but it was one of those days... Flatted about 4 minutes into Ridge trail. Blew out an o-ring on my pump. Took about 40 minutes to get enough air into the tire to continue. Got down to Braille and my momentum was killed by a couple downed limbs, a small tree and a deer that jumped across the trail. The deer cleared herself; I cleared the rest...

Perfect trail conditions in the NV City area.

Rode a few loops on Hoot for the first time on Monday and, well, it was a Hoot. Kinda of a mini Braille trail with much smaller jumps, better bank turns (they are more like Flowís banks) and shorter (its only 1.5 miles long). Major kudos to the folks that built it- I hear it will be expanded - sign me up to help.

Lots of trails and bikes in the woods there- I need to hook up with a local to ride the unknowns...

    Where is this?

How does it compare to that section of Kennedy after the normal top? Mission Peak Stanford last section to the peak? Trying to understand the percentage.

    Itís up in the PNW.
It was like the top of Kennedy or dogmeat, but the whole way up. There were a few sections where I didnít even think about trying to ride up, just jumped off and started pushing. And the downhills were also very steep. Way steeper than any legal trail in Ca.

Bellingham? You have to go way north to find really steep stuff, even in the NW. Trails are getting dumbed down as the sport gains popularity. Sanctioned and steep hardly exists in the states.

Near Bellingham yes. I stayed in town and got 4 awesome days of riding in. And yes, even though they have incredible sanctioned trails with perfectly built jumps, most the stuff we rode was unsanctioned and steep.

I stumbled on an off the radar easy mostly singletrack loop today in an unlikely spot. The city has been doing a lot of creek maintenance in the area and it looks like someone has also been thinking down the lines of establishing a singletrack loop. Maybe it's the city, not sure, but a pretty good section is in and a pretty large section is flagged.

Currently my go to "easy" loop for beginners was Lake Natoma, pretty sure this new trail is going to replace that. Quite excited about the potential and want to get out and explore it a bit more!

I'll post more info here as I figure it out. The pics below will give it away for some of you most likely!

Just cruising through the Dero on the way home. Hit the jumps the kids built down in the bowl about 10 times. These death ruts are deadly at speed!

I like CNRFC for forecasts https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/ol.php?type=QPF. I believe weather sites are just pulling from that as far as observed precipitation goes. CNRFC is showing at least a half inch of rain everywhere near Santa Cruz just from 10pm-4am tonight. I'll leave it up to you/locals as far as whether that's too much rain to ride your trails -- my local trails would need a day or two after that even though they are basically all-weather.

It's also worth noting the observed precipitation needs to be taken with a grain of salt -- the weather stations are not very tightly spaced and we have a lot of microclimate variations in Norcal. If you have a good sense of how rain shadow, elevation, etc play into rain in your area then you might be able to extrapolate. The SF weather station is only a mile away from me, but it's consistently off from what I'm seeing at my house.

Ok so today I had to turn in my rear wheel. Clearly either broke the free hub body or something since it spins both directions with no resistance. After I dropped the wheel off at Velo City in Winters I took a quick stroll down the new bike path paralleling Putah Creek to the East of downtown. Noticed a single track between the trail and the creek.

Came back today after work with my son and daughter. She is not a cyclist, in any capacity, but I keep inviting her. I thought this would be a fun little trail for her and invited her to go with Max and I. To my surprise, she said she wanted to go, score! Loaded up the three bikes and headed towards Winters.

Parked in the city parking right next to the downtown four-way. Rode down and immediately hit the single track. Megan (daughter) was sketched by the slightly steep hill down but stick with it:

We took the Ďleftí towards the East and had some fun single / double track.

The trail keeps going East of the (505) overpass, but currently blocked by a huge puddle. We turned around and backtracked to a log obviously used for crossing:

Did a little East to a dead end then back west:

Headed up and around to the bridge and crossed back over to the North side including a little out and back to the West:

It also kept going but was super soggy / muddy. Ended the day on a high note. No one was hurt and all were happy!

    Jan 28 - 31, 2019 Weekday Ride and Trails Report-b3604012-b8c7-495f-8b1a-c5d413ab1222.jpeg

I think there is a lot of mileage still available after it dries out. Quite a few flags already out there so someone has an eye on something.

Looking forward to doing more of it once it dries out!

When I saw him, I got off the bike and walked. As I closed up, I paused after each step. At 40', he got up and walked away which is what you see in the photo. He seemed very accustomed to humans.

What kind of witchcraft is going on here. Have you seen the 10 day???

    Jan 28 - 31, 2019 Weekday Ride and Trails Report-weather.jpg

WHY??? Every Fri-Sun is rain? Why can't that be every Mon-Weds or Tues-Thurs?

Always the same pattern it seems, ughh.

Okay, was eager to try set of Forekasters today, took my XC bike and drove to Demo - not the best idea. Flow is in very bad shape, standing water everywhere, except #5 and #6 - which we worked on few weeks back with MBOSC.
Ended up doing #5-#6-up Tractor loops, but couldn't find any flow - lot of holes and crumbling lips.

Had to get out before the rain hits. Might be the last chance! Hit Lagoon Valley for some easy stuff. Had a great time and kids are getting stronger. Just got to keep them going!
