    Healing vibes sought

    Healing vibes sought-01-desktop145.jpg
During intense practice, Miguel was hit by a baseball on April 30th and it broke his eye socket. Mom rushed to Orange County where he plays for Chapman University, to get him the proper care for the injury. At the time, it was determined that the swelling was severe and it needed to subside for one week before surgery could be performed.

    Healing vibes sought-10-img_8194.jpg

And thatís where we stand today. Miggy is resting, trying to recover for heal, for the next round of treatment. There is much uncertainty but he is surrounded by friends and teammates. Miggy has surprised all with his tenacity and dedication this year but they must now go on through the post-season without him.

    Healing vibes sought-03-dsc_0002.jpg

Miggy has grown to be a young man we look up to and many wonder where he picked up his tall stature and uncanny appreciation of the people around him.
So please send him some support and healing vibes to help him overcome this obstacle in his great journey.

p.s. For me, I've had a tumor blocking my left ear for 4 months and it was surgically removed on May 1 so recovering at home. 2-week recovery and waiting for full biopsy results.

Best wishes to both. I'm sorry Miggy sustained that injury.
I hope you, FC, fully recover.

I know of a guy who took a softball to the eye socket and shattered it too. He's doing well now.

Lord, we ask ask for a blessing of health and healing to cover the Cebedo family. We thank you for all the support from friends and family and ask that all the positive energy keeps them in positive and upbeat through this trial in their life. Please allow both Miguel and Francis to come out stronger on the other side of this. In Jesus name, Amen.

Wow, Fc, that's a tough break for both of you. My money in your case is on 'benign'. Your son is young, and he will recover perfectly, no doubt.
    No worries!

A little bit. My tumor did not touch my eardrum, luckily. But it slowly blocked the canal and I had to adjust to that. Didn't affect my balance too much but I could not hear out of that side. Some days were better. But I was able to travel even.

Wish I was that lucky. My left ear does not have a tumor, but I have what amounts "idiopathic chronic labyrinthitis" which DOES make me susceptible to those events, and to a good degree, it's wrecked my life. There's still no satisfactory treatment for it, too.
    Count yourself lucky.

Thank you, guys. ER visits and adversity are a part of our sport but it sure hurts a lot more when our kids are involved.

    Healing vibes sought-img_8236.jpg

My parents and sisters are at my house every day to help me through this time. And my wife is in Socal with a small village supporting them. It is pretty amazing to see the community rally during hard times.

Yesterday, my son sat up and had a healing taco from his favorite place. It was a good day.

    Ear Armor?

    Hey Francis,

Love the new "ear armor" you're sporting - will that be a continuing part of your cycling kit from here in?

My deepest sympathies to you and Miguel. I wish you both a speedy and full recovery. I'm hopeful, and thankful for you and yours that you all have one another, a large group of peripheral friendships, and what looks to be all that is necessary medically to get beyond the sucker punches life has delivered.

There is no muscle built without resistance, hardships are how we grow. Both you guys have proven time and time again that you're up to A N Y challenge, I'm certain you'll find a to bigger, brighter beyond.

Yes, they are there all the time -teammates, coaches, parents. One of the coaches cannot visit because he loves Miggy so much he just breaks down and cries. The team sends him video and texts from the field. He wanted to get treatment in Socal and this may be one of the reasons.

    Healing vibes sought-img_8205.jpg

Miggy's college baseball journey is an interesting one. He walked on to the team and took the starting first baseman's job. Having never played first before, he made four errors in the first ten games and then started doing drills picking balls off the dirt almost every day. In the next 30 games, he didn't make another error again. It's in these drills that he got injured.

He dislocated his shoulder slightly and he fractured small hand bone during the season but he kept playing, batting cleanup. He helped the team finish their best season in a decade with a 30-9 record. They are top seeded in their play-offs and then they head to D3 NCAA baseball as top-10 team in the nation. Miggy's heart is broken for missing this.

I've trained him to be a mountain biker all his life and shepherded this baseball thing along. We share both and we've celebrated every minute (to mom's dismay). His conviction is strong so we hope for the best.

oooof, I hope you two heal quick. Surgery recovery is always a pain. I really hope Miggy heals up fast, facial surgery, esp around the frontal sinus/skull area is a fairly tough recovery in my experience.

Wow. Sending you both good mojo, healing vibes, and warm wishes! Must be especially hard since you can't be down there with Miggy. Take care of yourself too, and glad your biopsy came out ok! I'm sure we'll see you back out on the trails very soon!

    His team: https://www.chapmanathletics.com/spo.../teams/chapman

His final game of the season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOgtZKLuM0E
Your son sounds amazing and the two of you clearly share a great relationship. Sorry to hear both of you are going through something right now, but looks like you two have fantastic support! All the best with the healing and recovery!

Miggy update - Here it is, as we know it. The swelling is down now but he cannot see with the left eye and there are facial fractures. He had two meetings great doctors at UC Irvine Medical Center.

The eye has a hole in the retina and it should heal on its own. Nerves and muscle are fine so this will be left alone to heal. The cheek and orbital bone have fractures that have to be repaired so they will be done at UC Irvine May 15. The team is very good so we'll choose to have it done in Socal rather than risk changing doctors and schedules.

Miggy is coming home today to Saratoga in the early afternoon of May 8 to heal for the next six days. He'll then go to Socal for treatment for two weeks. Surgery is safe but it's a tough recovery for a couple weeks. Visits are welcome.

His team is moving on to league championships and the NCAA tournament across the country with a 30-9 record, the best in years. They will miss his flawless defense and his unbridled enthusiasm for the game.

It is a rough road for the young man but we are overwhelmed with the show of support. Our road to recovery is visible and we'll get through it with friends and family support.

Fc, do either of you practice mindfulness meditation? There's really not much to it, aside from needing to practice it.
There's a good app for it called Headspace.com. Very cheap and it can help with consistency in practice.
Studies have shown that mindfulness practice can both speed healing and make healing more complete. And it's pleasant to do.

Right on. I just got all the packing removed from my ear. I can hear. I drove home from Stanford and I got the pathology results. Benign.

Got home, my son is here. He says he can see a little bit. He said he does not care about his face, he just wants to be able to see again so he can play.

    It is a good day.

Visited his high school team last night as Mitty beat Serra high.

Really good to see him out.

And I finally found out what happened. The drills were over and a kid threw the ball at him by mistake. He never saw it coming.

Godspeed the Miggy. He is in surgery now. May he hit the ball and send the bike again... maybe even on the same day.

Sending healing vibes too late for dad (congrats on the benign!), but hopefully in time for Miggy's recovery.

    Godspeed indeed.

    Right, thank you fellas.

I am good now. Benign tumor for sure and I have most of my hearing back. My cuts are almost healed and I'll be back to full strength in a week. The recovery is no joke and it was just up and down for a couple of weeks.

    Healing vibes sought-img_5648-1-.jpg

Miggy was home for a week and he was pain-free and had a great attitude and appetite. His vision is slow to come back so we are concerned.

He went to Irvine to have his facial bones repaired today. 10 days of recovery and this will be a tough one. Might actually have to touch the opioids we're all prescribed with. Schiiit, I might need some.

So I found out what happened, drills were over and a rookie pitcher threw the ball to his direction. He got blindsided and his face bones collapsed to protect his eye. Kid wrote us a letter and we said all is ok. All the players and coaches have been texting and visiting him constantly. All the parents too are in touch with us.

Last weekend, they won the League championship and they held Miggy's number in every photo as he was home here in San Jose. His girlfriend was at the field and couldn't believe the brotherhood and just broke down. Lots of moments for sure.

    Healing vibes sought-img_8658.jpg

Hard times but hopefully better now. And we need the sight to come back on its own.

Wow, fc, that was quite a post. The news is awesome, and I think that Miggy will go on to be a legend! The coach will certainly tell a cautionary tale to every years' team from now on! Your positive attitude is gonna speed both you guys' healing.
It might even help me! Keep up the good work.

Right on, thank you. 15 screws were installed and they had to cut outside his face (not just through the mouth). My wife weeps but she is a rock through all this.

Daughter had 4 wisdom teeth pulled too two weeks ago. Went to the prom and then got infected. Wife took care of both of those too last week here at the ranch.

Anyway we'll be #miggystrong and I hope every day gets better from here on.

I won't post too much more here unless things go wrong. Thank you all for your concern. Connect with me on FB if you want updates.
