A good friend is in Geyserville and he's staying put. His in-laws live down the hill closer to town and they've bailed to his house only a mile and a half away. They say they're going to be okay where they are. ...unless the wind shifts.

All districts are closing schools due to smoke or fire concerns. It's getting gnarly out there, mandatory evacuations have been extended into Larkfield and everything west of Sebastopol all the way out through Bodega Bay.

I'm in one of the pockets of SR that isn't currently listed as a evacuation warning and isn't expected to lose power and we're still debating leaving before it gets worse.

Got power back here in Angwin for the evening.

Ready for round 3 of the power shut off, starting early tomorrow morning.
The 'town' of Angwin has full power for the Grocery Store, Hardware Store as well as the gas station during power shut offs - not any homes.
So, have been living large up here so far.
My generator has been great. Powering my desktop computer, landline phone, fridge/freezer and an extra extension cord for light.
Got gas for the heater and water heater.
Batteries power the garden watering system.

During the Carr fire the CalFire delays become one update per day, usually in the morning (via website). Sometimes news reports had updated acrage but not often. I think the fire was moving too fast to estimate the numbers throughout the day.

I heard the Kincade fire doubled in size in 48 hours now. 66,000 acres based on the evening news tonight.

Maybe they just haven't got enough resources on-scene yet to post updates of this new fire.

Good to hear you're cruising along fine up there! Cluck, cluck!
Getting any rides in? How's the smoke? Smoke has been more on than off today in Petaluma.

Do you have any info on the building progress on the go-around trail to get from Angwin trail system over to Dans Wild to Moore Creek?
It is still clear that CDF does not want cyclists going past their station.

    Stay safe!

Hoping to get out there tomorrow...
Been mostly clear when the wind is howling.
Still, drifting breeze right now, wafting the deep, thick smoke about.
Hoping the stiff wind tomorrow morning will blow this smoke out.

No info on the new 'upper Dan's'.
But for sure - use the Tick Loop(lower) access point (BART) for accessing DWR to avoid CalFire and 4H.
    ...anyone wanna shuttle DWR tomorrow...

The Sonoma County stories run the gamut. From some of us who have remained unaffected (no loss of power), to folks who have suffered complete devastation.

If you look at the fire maps, you'll see colored areas depicting where the fires are, where mandatory evacuations are, where evacuation advisories are, etc... Right in the Southeast corner of Santa Rosa, is a white area in the middle of all the chaos depicting, no evac. warnings, power loss, or anything. That's where we are. It's random as hell.

Incredible shots. Cannot enjoy them, however.

It's already over twice the size of the 2017 Tubbs fire. However so far barely a fraction of structure loss and zero fatalities compared to the Tubbs fire.

Say what you will about the breadth of the evacuation areas but it's allowed firefights to focus on the fire, rather than potential lifesaving resources like in 2017.

PG&E should cease to exist. A "public" utility motivated by profit is obviously not good for anyone. From what I read, PG&E thinks they're the cause of the Kincade fire with that faulty transmission tower.

Believe both SF and SJ have tried to buy them out or take over their own power needs?

Have to think this is the last straw

PG&E is the example of what happens in a modern corporate structure. Publicly held companies are beholding to share holders who demand quarterly profits over long-term business well being. This is playing out in a very public way, is all.

Long gone are the David Packards and Bill Hewletts of the business world.

This is what is being taught in business school today. Surprised? I'm not.

yes, "shareholder value" is the corporate manta.

It does appear that PG&E transmission line was the cause (just like camp fire). Seems these should be designed to withstand cat 2-3 hurricane winds. It's not like a tree can drop on them. (diclaimer:I'm not an expert, I don't even play one on TV)

On another note, took the good air quality window yesterday and rode to Annadel. Many down trees, and it is still dusty.

Was wondering about that. I was going to ride yesterday, but an article in the paper said that lots of parks were closed and it looked like Annadel may have been one. I've never been one to "poach", so I didn't even try. If it's open, I'll ride this afternoon.

SoNoMas and the Sant Rosa Cup are canceled, take a look at their post: https://mailchi.mp/bikemonkey/sonomasnomas

On a positive note, the Lake Sonoma trails are fairly safe from the blaze, with 101 and the Dry Creek valley separating those trails from the fire.

It looks like Shiloh Ranch isn't fairing as well though, with a few current fire maps showing fire activity in the preserve. The backside of Shiloh burned in 2017, I'm really hoping that it survives this round since it's such a nice spot for quick after-work laps.

I didn't see anything about A del being closed. I rode though spring lake and few of folks walking dogs and such.

Check purpleair.com . I was looking out side and checking that site. if numbers were below 100 and trending lower I went for it.

you should ride if you can get out. beautiful out there today.

regarding the other thing, I guess I am still less conforming to rules. I never learned.

Hopefully didn't burn too hot. cooler burns seems to help out and come back soon. At least from what I've seen at annadel. Also, it changes things. Like the section of ridge that scorched and killed a lot of Oaks. But now there is a view of Mt Diablo. Fire is normal in nature. It just a bummer our homes are in the way. I hope we can figure that out.

So glad this is looking to be over.

These things are not normal. Makes one wonder WTF is going on.

    Stay safe.

An incredible job by our first responders to save structures throughout the burn zones. What a difference it makes when they can focus on fighting the fire instead of rescuing residents.

Rode Annadel last night with my son. Lots of leaves, twigs and general debris. I have to hand it to the staff, though. There were signs of numerous downed trees since last week and they've already been cleared off the trails.

The air quality was pretty good too.
