    Gilroy Gardens Bike Park?

Timing for this presentation was bad in regards to the Gilroy Garlic Festival shootings; MBOSC picked up on this private project up a few days ago---otherwise I wouldn't have heard about it:

ACTION ALERT! BIKE PARK PROPOSED AT GILROY GARDENS! VOICE YOUR SUPPORT!

This is the presentation that's linked at above:

Very interesting the 2.9% mentioned for the MTB demographic in the Greater Bay Area. There was excitement in the presenter's voice as if that's a good number; to me it's why we can't have nice things. (What percentage would "hikers" garner?)

It was mentioned here about a month ago:

Potential Mtn Bike and Zip Line Park in Gilroy

Yeah, is it a viable business and can Select Contracts get investors seems to be the big questions.

Either I missed it or "Zip Line" turned me off. Now that I've watched the presentation I'm impressed.

("Zip Line" comes to mind when I think about the failed Sanborn Bike Park effort; that was the competing use that probably died along with MTB'ing)

Or maybe I was concerned it would dilute efforts for the public bike park at Harvey Bear/Coyote. Not to mention the possibility of any MTB access at Mt Madonna. (Both are county parks)

Would I invest in Gilroy Gardens? Probably not.

OMG please let this happen. This would be a game changer. Looking on some maps It appears that hill has about 1500 feet of relief to it if they go to the top. That's way more than the lower mountain at Whistler.

Also, "big mountain" zip lines are f-ing cool. I used to think they were lame, but when you've flying a few hundred feet above a canyon at 80mph, it's pretty awesome.

Looks awesome! What's the chance of this happening though?

A good chance. Bike projects are becoming political gold these days.

Looks good. The peak is at 1600-1800 feet so there is some good vertical elevation for hopefully some challenging trails. I liked that the guy said there will be "technical" blue and black trails. Lol.

I live a 15 minute bike ride away from Gilroy Gardens. Season Pass here I come.

Of course, the city council will need to approve the plan first. Last year, very vocal NIMBY's from the Eagle Ridge development shot down a water park themed hotel which would have been built next to Gilroy Gardens. The hotel would have been visible from parts of the development and folks didn't like the idea of people coming and going late at night. Luckily the proposed bike park is just west of GG and would not be visible to the Eagle Ridge residents. Nor would there be much activity there after dark.

I'll be sure to show up at the next few Gilroy council meetings to voice my support.

Cool - if anyone has a YouTube account, leave an message of encouragement if you care to. Do it for the children! While you're supporting the children - GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE this Friday. We simply cannot allow New Hogan Lake to get any hotter. But, seriously.

Would be amazing if this actually happens.

As far as I know this would be the only year round lift served bike park within a 1000 miles or more.

FYI the builders previously made this https://christchurchadventurepark.com/ looks legit

the proposal is very development intensive (lifts vs shuttle, hilltop restaurant) but if they can make it pencil out, good for them. Since the city owns the park, and needs more revenue, I'm hoping this will be more viable that other bay area projects.

The one thing this proposal has going for it versus others that failed is the location. Its on highway 152 just off 101 right next to an established theme park with massive parking lots. So this really kills the traffic and crowds nimby complaint that dooms so many other projects. So maybe rboardman is underselling a bit. I give it an 8% chance of success in some form.

I've been toying with double-digits (10.5%) for those very reasons. Crazy, I know.

This looks like it would be a great location to have this. If they can make it good, so it takes some pressure off of Santa Cruz, that would be doubly good. From their presentation, though, it doesn't sound like it, if they don't make it interesting enough for kids to want to stay there for a day.

10 year time frame, I'm guessing. I'll probably be too old to do anything by that time.

It looks good though, just not great. I fired off an email.

I received that in email form.

The sad part is that there was only 182 emails.

Getting people to show up is always the hard part. In my neighborhood, any little thing, and people will pack the city council meetings with 2 lawyers in tow.
