Fort Bragg (Mendocino) MT Biking review

Hello everybody who is reading this.

I got a chance to vacation in the Mendocino and thought I'd share. Got a fan-frickin'-tastic tour of ?Woodlands? State Park where these guys are building high quality ST in abundance. If I wasn't a product of the 60s, I might be able to rattle off some of the trails but when I try to retrieve from my brain, I hear a lot of 'uhhhhs' and static. Anyhow, I do highly recommend checking this place out as a destination. The climbing is very gradual and short and the descents feel like they just go on and on. Pretty much exclusively XC style riding but flowy, ultra buff and loads of fun. If you threw JM, Skeggs, Demo, SC, and Monterey into a pot, threw out the gnar, you'd have Mendo riding. We hit it right after a rain so it was pretty wet but still was fun. I am told, in the summer, it stays mid 70's and the beach keeps the trails tacky.

On a side note, there is a boat load of amazing stuff to do beyond riding. The kids and wife had a blast visiting all kinds of pristine beaches and things to do around the various coast towns. Worthy trip if you have family that will join.

Thanks Nugjug for the tour and the amazing trail building you guys up there are up to.

Where are the pics? I'd love to see what the trails look like.

"Into a pot"? Was that a pun? Shouldn't it be "into some pot"?

    Names for Static

    Squashyo,

since I have the time and I know your guide pretty well; I'll take a stab at interpreting your map.

    So from XXXXX's house:

    - Boatyard for supplies - Hwy I - Old Hwy 1 - Simpson Lane/Mitchell Crk Dr - Rd511 (Wuss Hill) - Caspar Cliffs - Gunslinger - Ride Through Tree - Lower Shithole - TV
    Trail - Caspar Crossing North - Rd 600 - 500 Parallel Trail - TV Trail - Lower **** hole
    - Rd 500 - JIm's Trail/The Maze - Widow's Walk - Widowmaker - One Way - sandy road
    - Jug's - Jughandle - Hwy 1 - Pine Beach - Hwy 1 - Home.

How'd I do? Ring any bells? I guess if you went to Pine Beach first you would have to stir it around some.

Glad you had fun. Maybe see you next time.

ha...yes. There was a fine smell of skunk in the air.

I actually brought a camera but was just too busy riding to stop the flow. Nugjug took a couple of pics but not sure how exciting they came out...I tried to look core.

hmm.. I've been mentally planning a trip up there, and this gives me more reason to do so. I'll have to hit up nugjug or one of the other locals to see if they can be bribed with beer.

Try here, although it is difficult to get decent photos deep in the Redwood forests.

****, NugJug is a riding fanatic. Just mention you want to ride and he's showing you the hidden goods all over the forest out there. A very gracious host to say the least. And there is NO, none, zippo of the "These are our trails man, stay out" attitudes.
They're magic trail gnomes out there building trails for all to rip and rail.

Make a weekend and get out there. You will not be disappointed. It's been a few months for me. As soon as my back mellows out I'm planning on getting back out there asap.
