    First race

I am doing my first race on January 13th at Granite Bay/Folsom lake. I am trying to decide to either buy new tires or buy new pedals. I was looking at Pedal Innovations pedals. My current tires are ok to they still have tread and that's with dirt and rode riding. So which should I put my $100 dollars towards. Below is what my current tires look like. Thank you.

New tires. The Catalyst are awesome pedals, but maybe not the best racing pedal imho. Shoot me a PM re: pedals, I have an extra set you can test out.

If your pedals are crap, then new pedals. If your tires are shot, then new tires. If neither are, then new tires will add some perk to your ride.

Whatever you do, don't put them on the night before. Get a couple of rides in on them. Nothing worse than dropping out of a race due to a mechanical on something that wasn't installed right or that you aren't accustomed to.

Are those wider tires? For xc race, some light 2.1/2.2s will be great help.

I would not use a 2.8 for Granite Bay. As someone else said 2.1/2.2 is more suitable

That is the size tire that fits the rim. no other options.

i'm using Vittoria Peyote on my hardtail. they're nice, light , and inexpensive. i think i paid 50 for a pair from nashbar. Would probably shed about 2 lbs from your bike. rotational weight loss is supposedly what makes the biggest difference. have fun!

I'm guessing you could run a 2.4 to 2.6 on that rim with no problems. Measure the internal rim width and Google to see if and what others are running.

Pedal wise, unless you are upgrading to clipless, the performance level increase will likely not be as noticeable as going to narrow tires. Even 2.4 will be better than 2.8 plus tires. What is your rim width?

I have never heard of a rim that only fits one size tire. Please check with your manuel (he's the one out in the garden).

I'll text him and have him update. Derek is an old school buddy from junior high and a great guy! In fact, I'm going to get together with him and BKXC and maybe B1ker to do a video at Rockville. Inspirational stuff!

Hey guys so I finished with a time of 1:46 which put me in 6th in the Clysdale division. I think I should have gotten a award for being the heaviest Clydsdale at 325 to finish but it is all good. I was so overjoyed because I finished! I finished! There were alot more hills than expected and the course was different than what I expected but I will definitely do it again. The only technical difficulty that I had was my seat kept moving so once I batton down the hatches I was good. But I will definitely be doing another race. Interested in giving enduro a try.
